Chipboard use.

Featured Replies

Hi All, New to forum. Just wondered if any of you "chippys" or diy punters have ever used chipboard as an interior wall? Have old wooden part of the house with no internal walls just the stud showing.

Want to cover that and paint to make reasonable finished wall. Was also looking at ply but it is more expensive than chipboard. Was concerned about wood boring insects as I suspect they would go through chip board in no time if they like it. Thanks.

No one uses chipboard anywhere especially not here.

Insects aside its actually cheaper, easier to cut and fit to use plasterboard.

Tape and fill the joints and paint it.

8*4 sheet costs 139bt for a 9mm thickness.

Having said that whilst chipboard sounds like it might be ambrosia to beetles and mites sealing it with a coat of solignum or similar varnish/preservative and painting over will protect it.......until you have a water leak when it will disintegrate anyway!

Thanks eyecatcher. So if I used gyproc I could just paint over it. I wouldn't have to get it plastered?

You could use gyproc, plasterboard, and paint it without plastering, but I think that you would want to tape and float it first. Otherwise the joints and corners, especially outside corners, would not be very good. I always use the metal strips on the outside corners, otherwise one "bump" and you have a mess>
