BANGKOK: -- Swedish communication technology provider Ericsson has been awarded a five-year deal as part of Norwegian owned dtac’s LTE expansion program to deliver the technology in several major cities across Thailand

The contract includes upgrading and expansion of dtac LTE and 3G networks along with professional services such as network-roll out, integration, tuning & optimization as well as support services

Ericsson LTE equipment and service professionals will transform dtac network into a market leading high-performance mobile broadband network in order to deliver internet for all to Thai consumers

dtac TriNet Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Thailand’s second-largest mobile operator, has awarded Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) a five-year agreement to deliver 4G in several major cities as part of its LTE expansion program on 2100MHz band. Once completed, consumers can expect a superior user experience when browsing the internet on their smartphones, and much faster speeds when streaming or downloading movies.

Wouldn't it be better if they perfected the roll-out of 3G first? The service is atrocious and often reverts to 'E' with my smartphone and iPad in Phitsanulok. This is despite several attempts by the 'technicians' to eliminate the poor reception.

Be nice if they simplified the numerous packages on offer at the same time.

Mines been doing that a lot more recently, which is especially irritating as I know I'm only about 2.5kms away from the antenna .. for me I very often just need to turn off 3g then back on again.

Oh and I'm just outside Bkk but well within the 3g map area.

The problem is Thai technicians are only technicians by name, NOT ability.

Nobody in our village gets a signal 80 percent of the time, completely broken, nearly non-functional in our area of Isaan. Can't call in or out day and night.

I've not spoken to, nor checked the credentials of all Thai technicians. Hence, I cannot make the same sweeping statement.

I am NOT in a position to speak with any authority on the technical abilities of people I've not met.

work permits? nominee company???

DTAC can arrange the work permits and if Ericsson has a prescence in Thailand that will work also.

I used to work with Motorola in the 1990s building the network for AIS and DTAC and again in the early 2000s building the CDMA network for Hutchinson.

Having worked with many Thai techies back in those days I can say that the majority of them were pretty good and I even met a few of them later on the international contracting circuit.

Any mobile phone network is only as good as its planners and it is also dependent on the beanies who allocate they money. Unfortunately beanies are not techies and management relies more on keeping costs low and profits high. The investment is all up front money and they want instant return on it while cutting costs to the bone.
