O neg. blood is also called the universal donor. This blood can be given to other blood groups in an emergency. That is why it is always in large demand.

I am continually asked for blood donations (since the plane crash a few years ago), but I can only give blood every two months. The hospital/family of patients call me and ask me to give. (The hospital has my phone number.)

Donating blood is a painless experience and takes less than an hour start to finish.

There is a questionnaire to fill in asking about medical history and recent activities.

Remember - the life that she might save could be yours! A cliche I know - sorry, but donating blood does save lives.

If your wife does decide to give blood, the area that she should look for is upstairs at Nathon hospital - to the right looking at it from the car park.(Near the emergency entrance.) Look for signs 'laboratory'. All of the medical staff there do speak some English.

If you have not been to the hospital before - it is easy to find. Coming from Nathon - head south. At the first traffic lights (immigration office on the corner) - turn right. Just follow the road to the end. It bends to the right (or you end up on the beach) and the hospital is ahead of you.

My wife asks if this is a specific emergency case, because at home she was told that due to her being slightly underweight and mother of a 1-year old baby, being a regular donor is not an option for her for the time being.

However in an actual life-threatening case she would consider donating this time, given that the doctors here consent.
