Edge Availability In Pattaya?

Featured Replies

Anyone know if Edge is available in Pattaya, and if not, when it is expected to be (if ever) ?

Its available but very slow. Can't do much with it.

AIS has edge available in parts of Pattaya, basically as a trial. Not sure if the Dtac cells are edge capable over here...

It's still not a big improvement over regular gprs though, same high latency, high package loss etc.

It's average speed is faster because of the higher topspeeds you get between the periods of no transfers at all.

I've used it in Bkk (on Dtac) and expected much more of it...Same as with regular gprs, the data tends to come in bursts of a couple of seconds, then stops, then another couple of seconds transfer and so on...

It is actually better for surfing, but way to unstable for voip, and even downloads just stalling halfway etc...

The system Hutch is employing (cdma) actually performs better then edge (in my experience anyway) with topspeeds of around 170kbps, with actual downloads averaging in the 10 to 15 kBps range...

Still not 100% stable, basically mobile networks always will give priority to voice calls over data connections, especially noticable during weekends when lots of Bangkok users are here, with even complete standstills (on data) on extended weekends...

On the real 3G networks (as already in use in certain parts of the US) the topspeeds are so high (in excess of 500kbps) that half second stalls in data transfer hardly affects the overall experienced speed...

Boy am I a techno-twit. I thought edge was a new kind of party drug!
