Pried myself slowly away from the beautiful woman that is my wife so not to wake her up ... Gee OP -- from your previous posts I would've though Ms. Suzy Homemaker would have already prepared your Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast for you just waiting to see if you want your eggs over easy or sunny-side up today while she works on her crochet.

She gets one day off a month. It was today. Tomorrow she will be up 3am stitch clothes again....working her finger to the bone. ;)

I fail to see what your problem is. If you don't like the tone of a thread, no one is forcing you to read it. Just try another till you find one you like. Canarysun writes happy threads about train travel in Thailand.

Not everyone has your good luck, so why would you deny them the chance to vent and feel better for it? For many, here is the only place they can go to vent.

OP's happy. Great.

Others aren't - it's a fact but there are all sorts of reasons for that - health, relationship and/or money issues.

Look at the member who, only the other day, said he'd been given 6 months to live.

OP's not so naive as to believe that there won't be bumps in life's road some of which may not be so easy to overcome so it begs the question; why start a puerile thread asking why everyone isn't as high on hope as he is?

I'm sure many of the grumps probably saw life exactly as you do now but - as the saying goes - shit happens.

I've not said life is a rosy path - mine certainly has not been - with more than it's own share of tragedies ....with many a bump along the way....

I asked a question based on a generalized observation interested in what others think......

Now we have your thoughts about it and some insight as to you and your puerility - thanks....

Hmmm....it seems that people like you only remember the negatives written on here. What does that make you ?

A "negative" person would have posted...

The bloody birds wouldn't shut up so I was awake long before my lazy wife, She had previously labored me with yet another one of her chores. When I was out, typically 2 ladies propositioned me; you just can't escape them in Chiang Mai....Blah...blah.....blah....

Funny.....glad to see you have that quality too.

It still does not answer my question though. Those bitter postings, which OP refers to, come from their own experiences, memories. OP remembers, as indicated in his post.....the bitter and angry comments. Me not. Why ?

Nope - I don't like to see good threads reduced/lost to bickering and rancor - especially if no reason or justification for it.....there's many people with good positive things and ideas that shy away because of this - I've had people tell me they quit TVF because of it....it's hard to miss if it hits you in the face.....or derails something interesting/thought provoking/entertaining.....

We live a very good life here - why the poison? Makes it stand out all the more.....

Hoping to see some realistic takes on Thailand that justify this......what are they seeing?

The grim reality that is Thailand

True enough, but some people handle problems better than others.

Having a family makes a lot of difference too - a Thai family, who will take care of you when you get old, and not get rid of you like they so often do in my former homeland where there is not much security anymore.

But getting right back on topic. The OP shouldn't consider the TV membership as indicative of the farang populace in Thailand.

Some of them think they are, though.

Probably because they haven't ventured far from the trough.

I see Thailand as a warm cheap place to retire. The people are kind to your face ,which is all that matters to me. The women are lovely and submissive. If you live within your means life is so easy.

That said I can understand why some guys get miserable here. Many gave up a lot to be here and didnot see the whole picture before they came. I amnot saying they did a rash thing, but perhaps didnot take everything in to account.

I personally went through a faze where i missed some things I did and had back home.I missed sailing and racing every week. Fishing for salmon and eating them fresh on my boat.Fresh shrimp, prawns, crabs, you get the idea right.. I missed regattas and meeting interesting people at them. Cruising the west coast and seeing things most people never see, because they donot have access..So went back and bought a new boat and went sailing. Thinking I could go back each year and go sailing then return to Thailand. It was the coldest summer I think in history on the west coast,I returned to Thailand and all but gave the boat away. Now just appreciate what Thailand offers and have need for nothing more.

I feel a lot of guys want what they had back home plus what they have here, and they want it here. When they cannot have it all they cannot deal with it in a mature manner and use anger as their tool

So when I read these grumpy guys posts I actually feel sorry for them. Its a case of not seeing the forest for the trees.

OP ask's for "enlightenment". In Thailand, enlightenment comes automatically and is linked to the time a Farang spends here. Fact has it, that every year, a good number of Farangs (as soon as the birds have stopped singing), have experienced so much "enlightenment", that they forget to turn off the light on the way out and are now looking "for a good lawyer".

Fine.

Of course, those Farangs in this position, will not happily return to this Forum, explaining in detail what happened when the Bird (Birds) stopped singing. They just fade away from Thailand and this Forum,

Once back home, they make the finest Thai-Bashing Brigade imaginable. All very unnecessary, if only most of those folks would have listened to some "old-hands" and invested some time in studying the "law of the land", before investing money and emotion.

Nevermind, as long as the Bird sings....................................................

Cheers.

It is just the way life is. Somedays we are happy and so we write about the happy trail.

Somedays we are mad and angry as hell and so we write about the things that held us back.

It seemed the negative stories get more participants, and the good stories get lost down to the bottom of the discussion. What is that say about us?

"Help Me To Understand How You See Thailand."

Is different from "Help Me To Understand Thailand."

Is also different from "Help Me To Understand why people move to Thailand."

I don't understand why people move to Thailand. I think there are lots of reasons I won't go into.

For me, I could never give up my life in The United States of America. If I didn't like the people or the climate I'd move to another area with a different culture and climate. 3 or 4 months a year in Thailand is a nice break but it also helps me appreciate my home. I'm always happy when the plane lands back on my own soil.

I don't need anyone's permission to be here. No reporting, no visa, move around all I want... When If I live to be too old to take care of myself I'm moving back to the ranch where there is family and ranch hands and a cook and 3 good meals on the table every day. There are friends and neighbors I've known for decades. I speak the language.

It's home. I don't understand why some people don't have roots and a place to call home even if home is just a particular town or area.

Thailand is a great place to visit but it could never be home.

Bc most people don't come here to talk about how great their life is. They mostly use TV General to find solutions to common problems and connect or share ideas about frustrating aspects of life in the LOS. I think it's safe to say most of the things people complain about are things that happen far more often than they do back home. And it makes them feel good to know they're not alone.

I moved to Thailand when I was 22. I understood it and liked it. I moved back to the States and never understood why they did so many dumb things. After a while I moved back to Thailand where life made sense to me. When people in Issan get angry they burn up Bangkok. When people in East St. Louis get angry they burn up East. St. Louis. See what I mean?

Thailand is a great place to visit but it could never be home.

That's because you don't fit in... for whatever reason or reasons.

It's your fault, not Thailand's or the Thai people, who if you avoid Bangkok and the tourist areas, are the best in the world.

Classic in this thread is the forum troll who keeps speaking about the 'few' that spoil the forum. What planet is he living on?

A you talking about Norman " on your bike" Tebbitt?

It really doesn't matter if he fits in or not. He prefers life back home. Nothing wrong with that. And he's not blaming TH for anything.

As a walked past I fronted him - he backed off a little but as soon as I started to turn my back he charged - I was watching & turned around and went straight at him holding my empty water bottle up - he didn't turn tail but stood his ground - I took another step and he sidleld a bit then a step back - I took another step & he backed off further...when we'd stale mated he stayed there and I walked away while still facing him with my upper body.....about 25 feet away he went behind a tree....clearly an agressive not frightened easily animal.......but then - I probably looked the same way to him.....

Somewhere between "I took another step & he backed off further..." and "when we'd stale mated..." is when you should have delivered a fast kick square on the nose; the most sensitive part of its head. He will probably still bark at you next time... but he will stay behind the tree when he's doing it.

Not a good idea if wearing flip flops which is all I wear in LOS.

However, a length of water pipe over the bridge of the nose should have the desired effect.

Some, like myself never get to stay in one place long. I lived in 5 different countries before age 9, and travelled all over the world in various jobs in later life. Home used to be where mother lived, but now she's gone it's where my wife lives ( Thailand ). Not everyone's life is as simple as yours.

I always thought bikes had seats, but this one clearly has no seat. It's hard to tell though, as the rider is always sitting on a seat pole, with about half an inch of pole visible below him. I saw it parked one day.....TO MY SHOCK the seat pole was actually a couple foot long.

Actually, I think he should.

The opinions generally espoused on TV are the same as all the guys I meet in person, and broadly fall into three categories,

1 Those who have come here after being done over by a woman

2 Those about to be done over by a woman

3 Those who don't realise they've been done over by a woman

And that's just in the Ladies in Thailand forum!!!

biggest decisions of the day do I wear the Tevas or flip flops.....

If this is what your life is like, yes, it is paradise. If you run a business in Thailand, you have a tendancy to get upset at the government mostly and at a few of your customers or vendors. The Thai people are good and deserve better.

You're being nice. Most would call it provincialism.
