Hi Guys,

Looking for abit advice please..........

I am coming to Chiang Mai soon and was looking into bringing another suitcase alongside the usual airline free luggage allowance.... HOWEVER.... The prices I am being quoted by the airline is crazy! around £45 (GBP) per kg!!!!

Can anyone recommend a courier / baggage service that will collect my suitcase at my home address and deliver it to me in CM? I am looking for a reliable company at a good price?

Any advice will be greatly received!

Cheers,

Shaun

while i cannot provide with your desired info, i will say that bangkok is far far easier to clear customs with. i've been told by many long time residents here that they always first go thru customs in bangkok, then onto CM, but yes that creates another set of problems of getting your belonging here to CM. it ain't easy.

oh i just realized that by sending your items here that it will ALL be viewed by government officials and charged more than the appropriate tax. new or used, it will be taxed.

Do you really think some company is going to pick up your bag at your door in England and deliver it to your hotel in CM for less than 45 GBP?

Use the postal service.

Unaccompanied baggage costs have been compounded by security inspection fees and are no longer cheap.

Reduce your belongings to absolute essential, irreplaceable items. Post as several smaller packages with appropriate declarations of: used clothing - used pots/pans ... etc.

Buy the maximum weight allowance of stowed baggage and pack heavy/fragile items in your [7kg] carry-on.

Can anything be left behind to be collected later on a return trip or brought over by friends/family? eg: I just brought a large antique mantle clock back ... took up half the suitcase and family are bringing cast-iron ware next visit.

The 45 British pounds per kilo sounds wrong. Delta, for example, charges a flat US$200 for each bag more than the allowed 2 on international flights. I suspect other major airlines have comparable fees.

Also, I've found that if your flight is booked through all the way to Chiang Mai--even via Bangkok, all of your baggage will be OK without additional charge on a domestic flight here in Thailand. At least that was my experience; check with your travel agent.

45 Pounds/kilo is outrageous. What airline has quoted that?

Hi Dante99,

An airline called Eva Airlines has quotes me 60USD for every additional kg.

I didn't believe it myself but I got my mate to ring up and reconfirm..... But it was the same answer!
