An understanding of giving and receiving Likes

Featured Replies

Help me understand.

What I have noticed seems to be neediness for likes by some members. Giving and receiving.

Is giving and receiving ‘likes’ dumbing us all down? Does a post and opinion become vanilla to garner more likes? Do esteemed members post just for likes?

Does giving likes enable a more civil mannered forum and make it all a more charming place to be?.

As a poster, do you get upset if you don’t get a like? Is everything so much better when you get a like?

What about members fixated on giving and receiving likes? Why? What is the appeal? Currying favour? Politeness?

I even noticed a post stating ‘I am out of likes but will be back to give them later’!! An entire post about an intention to give an electronic like…sometime in the near future!! Will the world fall apart if members don’t know you enjoyed their post?

Are members becoming insecure if they are not seen to give a like/s?

Thoughts?

There always were insecure people, and always will be.

What's your point?

it is a sign of appreciation and agreement...

but some people don't get many and seems disappointed about it though they even have to start a topic about it...

We only have available so many likes a day.

When I saw your avatar post, I had one remaining, and my first thought was, use it or lose it.

If someone has said something i strongly agree with, taken the time to make an informative post or responded to a post of mine with useful information even if i might disagree with some of it, i think it deserves a like.

Liking an emoticon is a step too far though as it doesn't really represent that someone has put much thought or effort into it.

btw do you know how many?

Moving to Farang Pub, this type of topic should not be opened in General

General topics

A forum for general interest & discussion topics related to Thailand only and not covered by other sub forums.
The General Forum is not a place for chit chat, banter and daily life observations. Those sort of topics should be placed in the Farang Pub sub forum.

Getting likes is fine but unless I regularly get a few people calling me a clueless idiot I feel I must be losing my touch.

"What I have noticed seems to be neediness for likes by some members. Giving and receiving."

What makes you think there is a "neediness for likes by some members?" A "neediness?"

How is it different from you saying "thank you" if someone does something you "like?" Why is it just not a nice thing to do to show appreciation for a post someone made?

A "neediness?"

I find it interesting to find folk who think similar to myself by "likes", and am sure visa - versa, plus there is no need to reply as the post one "likes" probably does not need adding too..... smile.png

If I "like" a comment, it means I like it. If I run out of "likes" it means I have liked more things than I am allowed to "like", apparently. If I don't "like" a comment, it doesn't necessarily mean I don't like it, I just don't like it as much as others.

There should be a range of buttons for Like, Agree, etc - with their opposites. It'd save a lot of typing ;)

Nah. You still got it...

Its a fairly simple system.

You understand it.

You're just pressing buttons, but its not working.

OP, I can only speak for myself here.

Being a self-centered, arrogant, egomaniac person I love getting those likes.

If I don't get at least one for whatever I say, I can't sleep in the night, get aggressive with the wife and start having suicidal thoughts.

On the other hand I love watching this number going up, on the right hand of my screen and everyone I get I say a big thank you and send a kiss to that person.

Now, give me a like for what I said or you don't get the kiss.

I can't believe I got a "like" for this post. Oh, Thanks crazy chef1. I'm in tears.

I have made a deal with the bride. She shouts me a beer for every "like".

I am not liking the post but liking the poster. I have a morbid fascination with some members and reach a perverse state of excitement when my favourite posters are online.

I would stalk some of those here if I knew them personally, particularly JT.

It is good to give a 'like' especially if you do like the post.

It is good to receive a like too because it shows other like your post.

When certain members are being humourus - like a certain members ring of fire, I like to give a like if it makes me smile or laugh.

There is a lot of negativity in some topics and a like can negate the negativity.

I don't think that member liked his "ring of fire" though, it caused much mirth here
