Cabinet approves motorway toll exemption

BANGKOK, 2 December 2014 (NNT) – The Cabinet has agreed to the Transport Ministry’s proposal to have motorway tolls exempted for New Year holidaymakers between December 26 and January 4.

Speaking after the weekly Cabinet meeting, Deputy Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the Cabinet has given approval to the fee waiver for Motorway No 7 (Bangkok-Chon Buri) and Motorway No 9 (Eastern Outer Ring Road), from 4 pm of December 26, 2014 to midnight of January 4, 2015.

According to him, the duration of fee exemption this year has been extended from previous years. The move is believed to help ease traffic congestion during New Year and is also considered a New Year gift for the Thai people.

yes made it 800 useless comments and some funny bits

Free tollways are always a welcome "gift"! Merry Xmas Transport Ministry and thank you!

Good gesture. But this will sadly mean a higher mortality rate in the late evening of January 4... racing to be in before one has to pay again.

... And in other news, the Thai government is set to raise VAT. They give you with one hand and take it away with the other.

And as an additinal gift there will be an increase in the VAT - Happy Holidays!

The planned increase from 7% to 8% will not start during the holidays.

Listening to TVF posters complaining the government has put a decision on the increase per October 2015 on hold. Next we wait for TVF posters to complain about a possible revenue gap and increase of planned deficit in the 2015/2016 National Budget.

Happy Holidays every one !
