Army Chief: Mechanical failure causes helicopter crash in Phayao

BANGKOK, 3 December 2014 (NNT) - An investigation into the fatal Bell 212 helicopter crash in Phayao has found evidence of mechanical failure.


Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, Deputy Defence Minister and Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army insisted he has not withheld the use of the Bell 212 helicopter and others in the Bell Huey family but has just ordered a full-scale inspection on their capacity.

He said next week he will call a meeting to find solutions for aircraft that are in poor condition. The discussion will include a procurement plan in the next phase and additional training for pilots.

The helicopter crash happened in the evening of 17 November 2014, killing nine army officers including the deputy commander of the Third Army Region.

Prayut reveals Children's Day slogan

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday revealed slogan for next year's Children's Day.


His slogan emphasised on knowledge and morality. It could be translated into English as 'With knowledge and morality comes a brighter future'. It is a tradition for a prime minister to give the slogan for the day.

Migrants to stand trial for British tourist murders in Thailand

BANGKOK: -- Thai prosecutors on Wednesday said two Myanmar men will stand trial for the brutal killing of a pair of British holidaymakers on a tourist resort after finally accepting murder charges against them.
