BANGKOK, Dec 10 -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha left Bangkok this morning to attend the 2014 ASEAN-South Korea CEO Summit tomorrow and the ASEAN-South Koirea Commemorative Summit 2014 on Friday.

According to the Government House website, Gen Prayut will also have bilateral talks with two national leaders--South Korean President Park Geun-hye, and Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei--and will meet with delegates from leading South Korean businesses including Samsung Electronics, LG, Hyundai Motor and K-Water.

The ASEAN-South Korea Summit is part of the parallel activities of the ASEAN-South Korea Commemorative Summit.

The main topic of discussion is “Innovation and Dynamism: A New Takeoff for ASEAN and Korea”, organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).

M. Yongmaan Park, KCCI Chairman, invited Gen Prayut to join the forum and speak on the topic “Global Economic Outlook and the Role of Asia.”

A hundred Thai businessmen were also invited.

Gen Prayuth will take this opportunity to explain global and regional economic trends and the role of Asia in mobilizing the world economy.

He will encourage ASEAN and the South Korea to collaborate in mutually beneficial potential businesses.

The private sector’s role should be further promoted.

Also, he will address Thailand’s economic policies and measures, such as those related to reducing trade barriers, promoting connectivity, and developing border economic zones, digital economy, and the green economy.

The ASEAN-South Korea Commemorative Summit is a special meeting between leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states and the Republic of Korea to celebrate the 25th anniversary of relations between ASEAN and South Korea.

Subjects to be raised by Thailand are development of economic cooperation, development of connectivity among people, support for the South Korea’s promotion of peace and stability, as well as propriety within this region.

The prime minister and his delegation will return to Thailand Friday night. (MCOT online news)

Wonder if he will hop over the border and give Kim Jong Un some tips.

LOL Why not. Seems Thailand is "cozzying" up to Russia and China. Might also include N. Korea into the "inner circle."

I wonder if the PM will wonder how it is that S. Korea has made such gigantic steps - in so many ways - in a relatively short time. Compare that to Thailand and conclude what?

"Also, he will address Thailand’s economic policies and measures"

Will he also explain why the Thai economy has lost 3.5% GDP in the last 12 months and likely to continue to do so with lower exports and a stagnate domestic economy? I would imagine if asked about Thailand's flatline economy Gen. Prayuth would just explain "You don't understand, Thailand has never been conquered nor made a colony." And of course there will be an undercurrent of how long the ASEAN countries will have to deal with a military-led government which is unlikely not to allow elections until well into 2016.

Conclude that the South Koreans' willingness to bitch slap down an uppity military that continually interfered in politics to its functional and relatively lowly place under civilian direction and control may not have been South Korea's worst decision.Still South Korea is a nation that has pride in its image and has abandoned primitive habits.
