drive to pai with nissan almera

All I can tell you is that the road between Chiangmai and Pai is fine (not counting 8 billion hills and curves). If you intend to go another route (south of Mae Hong Son and then on to Pai), a friend just did that a few weeks ago and said a section or two of that road south of Mae Hong Son was under repair and just horrible.

Its bumpy and a bit rough in patches.. But its sealed tarmac the whole way and nothing any normal car cant handle.

The Samoeng, wiang heng way is soooo much nicer, but has a few un sealed sections.. I think it will be sealed in another year, they seem to be working on it, and will be a far nicer option avoiding the silver van manics.

Actually I believe there are 1095 curves -- as far as Mae Hong Son -- hence the road's name, the 1095. wink.png

1864 apparently..

Road numbers are not determined by how many curves they have ;)

We did it 4 months ago, with a Suzuki Ertiga...MPV (not large)

Thrilling..but not a problem. Do it in the morning...not afternoon. So you can stop a few times.

My head is still spinning. Leave your lights on....even daytime.

It is very doable...but I am not looking forward to it again. Saves you 4 or 5 hours rather than going on 108.

The biggest problem is slow traffic from all the tourists streaming to and from Pai now. Going over in the evening would be less aggravating but you will miss some occasional nice scenery; the vistas and traffic improve from Pai to Mae Hong Son for a nice day trip out of Pai. Most likely time for fog is 4 to 10 am. Have a nice trip.

I think you mean Samoeng to Pai via Ban Wat Chan

The road to Wat Chan seems to be being tarmaced at the rate of 5km a year at present

The unsealed road is dusty and rough - especially the downhill muddy stretch down towards Wat Chan - dont think about tackling it in a saloon car
