SAMUT PRAKARN, The Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is now providing additional personnel and has established new measures to facilitate the increase of flights and passengers during the New Year’s holidays, said an official.

According to the Director of the Suvarnabhumi Airport Prapon Pattamakitsakul, the Suvarnabhumi Airport has established new measures to accommodate the convenience for passengers due to the extra amount of passengers and flights during New Year’s holidays.

21 airlines have requested to add 423 extra flights in addition to the regular flights on schedule, which comprises of 286 international flights and 137 domestic flights.

To cope with the increase of passengers, the Suvarnabhumi Airport will now provide more staff, such as the security checking staff to shorten the passenger and baggage security checking time, more traffic staff to take care of the car traffic sending and receiving passengers in front of the terminal, more security staff, and more staff to constantly check the condition of airport equipments, to better provide assistance and convenient.

The Suvarnabhumi Airport Director also said that the airport has established a 24 hour ‘Suvarnabhumi Coordination Center for Facilitation, Security and Safety’ to coordinate with the different sectors in the airport and externally, such as the Immigration Division 2, the Customs Department, the Tourist Police Division, the Association of Thai Travel Agents, and airline offices to accommodate the passengers.

Additional taxis will be providing additional service to arriving passengers at the airport, while the departing passengers can choose to park their cars at the Long Term Car Park, where shuttle bus services are provided to connect the car park and the passenger terminal.

Meanwhile, departing passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours in advance of the scheduled departing time to avoid missing the flight. Passengers are also asked to prepare their carry-on luggage to comply with the liquid, gel, and spray restrictions to reduce the time at the security check. Passengers can call the 24 hour AOT Contact Center 1772 for more information said the Suvarnabhumi Airport Director.

So they're going to employ more staff during a busy period. Are we supposed to be impressed?

Okay. So, where is the news? Maybe it's the Holiday part...a way of advertising?

55555555555555555555555555 , They just keep pumping themselves up 5555555555555555555555

And in other news the Duty-free shops are putting together special free gifts for shoppers at their outlets.

Was at BKK yesterday around 5pm seeing someone off to the UK.

Never seen the short-term parking so busy. The slip road to the 5th floor parking entrances was blocked off so was forced to the ground floor - only the far entrance open. The double parking made it difficult to easily navigate around corners with a pick-up and was lucky to find a space back up on the 5th floor.

That also explained why there were so many cars parked on the side of the overpass leading to the airport - always a few parked there, but far more than usual.

In addition, loads of Chinese tourists were disembarking from buses and piling into the departures area with trollies stacked high!

Unfortunately the passenger was flying Etihad to UK and has been delayed in Abu Dhabi airport for a number of hours due to heavy fog. Was lucky to land there before the fog closed the airport but they are only now clearing the backlog of flights after the closedown. Makes for a long trip!!
