BMA plans to install over 11,000 more CCTV cameras around Bangkok

BANGKOK, 15 January 2015 (NNT) - Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra revealed that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has planned to install 11,546 more CCTV cameras around the capital within late 2016 to enhance the efficiency of public safety measures.

The plan was approved in today’s meeting of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council. The meeting discussed the progress of the CCTV installations and the obstacles that prevent connections of the device in some areas.

MR Sukhumbhand said that during his six years in office 58,614 cameras have been installed but only 47,063 are in service. Authorities are in the process of installing signal connections for the remaining points.

Moreover, 14,103 of the cameras have been connected with surveillance systems operated by district offices, police stations and other public security-related networks for the benefit of traffic control and crime suppression.

Well done. CCTV cameras have proved invaluable in identifying culprits in numerous illegal incidents.

I trust they will do a better installation job than shown in the photo. --- "Nar, we don't need that bolt"

...shouldn't they first get the initial batch up and running....???

..wasn't it announced that a high percentage were actually 'duds' or 'dummy cameras'.....???

Please redirect this to Kho Tao island. Seems like none ever knows what is ever going on down there!

About 1/2 of the 20,000 they have now, don't work and the 4 guys manning all monitoring the balance surely can't take on another 11,000 !

Never mind not working....how many of them are actually connected up? rolleyes.gif

CCTV cameras in Thailand seem to work only for the rich and influential.

Actually it appears the bolt is still there. missing is the nut. 'hard to get a good nut in Thailand.

"...47,063 are in service.."

47,603 perhaps?

I wish the world would go back to 1995 and just stay there. Life was so much more interesting back then.

These would be a good idea if the footage were used without tampering and used for the benefit of all. Many times it seems the footage is lost, not available or seized. Maybe need some laws to protect the footage?
