Thailand Post Diversifies with Specialised Logistics Shift Picture courtesy of Bangkok Post In a decisive strategic pivot, Thailand Post is now focusing on specialised logistics services to mitigate risks from fluctuating e-commerce parcel volumes. This transition stems from a notable shift by e-commerce giants towards more economical delivery providers, coupled with a slowdown in online retail growth, as noted by Thailand Post president, Dhanant Subhadrabandhu. Restaurants taking the biscuit, tax now per person charge !
Was the 200 baht per person charge a 'minimum charge' per person ? or an additional charge per-person ? Either way... name the place - its not defamation to simply name a place that Charges Tax, Service and a 200 baht per person charge. Many bars charged an Entrance fee - 200 baht etc (with which you get one drink) its because of too many cheapskates to take up space without buying a drink etc.. But for a restaurant to charge like this is too cheeky... especially if its an additional charge. I've had many disucssions with many restaurants: Our Son is tall, and some buffet restaurants wanted to charge him as an adult rate when he was about 6 years old etc... I pointed out that the other kids at other tables are older than him - charge child fees or we walk ! (always worked).... The same goes for the 'Japanese restaurants that have a drink all you want for 2 hours promo'... I'd go with Wife and Son... Then they'd insist that my Wife has to do the promo too.... I ask why not my son ?... (being flippant) then they the manager and ask why they are forcing a pregnant lady to drink alcohol ?... But, I understand why some restaurants have such policies - to many people at some point have been cheating the system so the restaurant owners try and avoid this... We pay everything by card in most places that includes the 10% service fee. If a smaller place we are paying by QR Code... and will add on a tip - the issue of course is whether this gets to the staff.... (or Wife will hand some change over - in a small noodle stall etc). Some places charge an Air-Con fee !!! (its been discussed here)... Simple option - dont like it, vote with feet. -

Report Thailand Post Diversifies with Specialised Logistics Shift
Picture courtesy of Bangkok Post In a decisive strategic pivot, Thailand Post is now focusing on specialised logistics services to mitigate risks from fluctuating e-commerce parcel volumes. This transition stems from a notable shift by e-commerce giants towards more economical delivery providers, coupled with a slowdown in online retail growth, as noted by Thailand Post president, Dhanant Subhadrabandhu. E-commerce Shift and New Ventures With major e-commerce platforms driving the bulk of parcel traffic, Thailand Post is keen to diversify its revenue stream. By targeting a new, stable customer base, it plans to offer tailored services such as home delivery of medical supplies for humans and pets. This initiative demands precise logistics management, including identity verification, temperature control, and same-day delivery. Although the volume from these new services is smaller compared to e-commerce, the growth potential and reduced risk from varied customer sources make it an attractive venture. This strategic shift allows Thailand Post to build stronger brand connections and customer loyalty. Investment and Infrastructure To support this transformation, Thailand Post is investing 1 billion baht in automating its 19 nationwide distribution centres, with a focus on enhancing the Ratchaburi hub to cater to western and southern regions. This investment aims to bolster Thailand Post’s extensive express delivery network, spanning over 50,000 locations. Currently, the logistics arm of Thailand Post accounts for 43% of its total revenue. The company prioritises sustaining the grassroots economy over maximising profits, reinforcing its commitment as a state enterprise. Pet Healthcare Logistics Initiative Recently, Thailand Post launched a specialised pet healthcare logistics service, in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science and Bangkok Animal Hospital. This service integrates EMS delivery to distribute veterinary medicines efficiently, reducing hospital wait times and congestion. This partnership caters to a burgeoning pet market, which in 2024 was valued at 664 billion baht. As pet ownership grows, especially among dogs and cats, the demand for veterinary and logistics services is expected to rise, presenting lucrative prospects for Thailand Post. By addressing these niche markets, Thailand Post is not only diversifying its portfolio but is also positioning itself as a key player in the evolving logistics landscape.
