The NLA today voted to remove former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra with the votes now exceeding the required 132 votes to make the removal valid.

By 12.10 pm the “Yes” votes to remove her stood at 150 and the vote counting is still continuing.

For the former Senate and House speakers, both survived the removal votings.

The eight who abstained should be sacked, if they cant or are afraid to make a decision on something this important they shouldn't be in the job.

Ok the decisions have been made on the evidence presented now lets see who does and does not accept them.

Junta-stacked parliament impeaches ex-Thai PM
Bangkok, Thailand | AFP |

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's junta-stacked parliament voted overwhelmingly Friday to impeach embattled former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra over her administration's controversial rice subsidy scheme, just hours after prosecutors said she should also face criminal corruption charges.

A tally of votes -- placed on a whiteboard in the 220-seat National Legislative Assembly and broadcast live -- showed 190 members voted in favour of impeachment. The decision, which needed the vote of three fifths of the NLA, means Yingluck will be banned from politics for five years.

NLA makes history by impeaching Yingluck
The Nation

The National Legislative Assembly on Friday voted overwhelmingly by 190 votes out of a possible 220 to impeach former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the rice-pledging case.

Former Parliament president Somsak Kiartsuranon and former vice Parliament President Nikhom Wairatpanich escaped impeachment in another case.

The NLA members cast their votes in secret ballots on the two cases at the same time, starting at 11am. The results were known at noon.

The impeachment bans Yingluck from politics for five years.

She was accused by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of negligence as duty as the prime minister, failing to act to stop massive corruption in the rice pledging-scheme.

Eighteen NLA members voted to reject the impeachment request. Eight NLA members abstained and three ballots were declared invalid.

Somsak and Nikhom were accused by the NACC of abusing their authority as Parliament president and vice president to push through charter amendments on the Senate composition.

The 220-member NLA failed to muster three fifths votes to approve the impeachment request against Somsak and Nikhom.

Only 100 NLA members supported the impeachment request against Somsak while 115 NLA members voted to reject the request. Four other NLA members abstained.

A total of 95 NLA members voted to support the impeachment request against Nikhom while 120 NLA members voted to reject the request.

Now can we get on to the treason charges against the General please.

You'll have to take that up with a higher authority who approved him in his current position.

The charge of nonfeasance, failing to stop massive corruption is correct. There is possibly no evidence of her creaming off for her own benefit which is understandable as her fugitive criminal brother would have learnt long ago to have that trail well covered. But there were countless occasions where corruption was presented in the house and she failed to act. She will be found guilty but will she serve time? She is also guilty of lacking in the intelligence department as she showed countless times in her puppet role. Perhaps she should have her lawyers defend her on that basis.

5 years is a joke....it's enough to miss only the next election.

Well sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

AFP didn't mention about the Bkk elites, etc., but hang on maybe a rewrite coming soon.

Now can we get on to the treason charges against the General please.

Perhaps you could try educating yourself and read the Thai Martial Law Act 2014 which is an Act still on the statues.

Now jail her before she does a runner.

That is not for the NLA to decide, that is for the courts.

Maybe you meant that is not for a TV member to decide, that is for the courts?smile.png

It was a democratic vote - they weren't told how to vote unlike the red shirts

who cares there will be anyway no democratic election within the next 5 years....

Voted to remove her ?

Remove her from what exactly !

Remove her from politics for 5 years ?

Shame it isn't for life

What do you expect the result to be when the Junta is in full control? I think there should be another mass protest.
