We live in a low class housing estate villages where all the ugly houses look the same and there are barking rat dogs on each corner.

The water pressure in the mornings is terrible and the wife is complaining every day.

Is there a cheap and viable solution to this? I visited a store in town which was trying to sell me a pump worth 5k. Are there any other options? Itโ€™s a rental and thus not keen to spend money on this place. If it was my home I would install a big water tank and pump.

Any ideas?

You're not allowed to pump the mains, so the only real solution is a tank and pump, or a highly elevated tank and gravity feed.

Tank and pump.

A must for reliable water supply in most parts of Thailand.

For a rental? I understand your hesitation.

Otherwise you have to resort to very basic storage with big buckets filled manually.

A tank and pump is the only way. It'll be about a 10k baht investment. Make sure that you get and agreement, in writing, from your landlord that you can install it and when you leave you can take it with you if you put the plumbing back as it was!
