Chiang Mai North Hill, what high season?

Played yesterday, with a member. Despite rumours to the contrary, it is not expensive. 1000B with a member, 1200B walk in. Rates include caddie. These are resident rates, although no ID was asked for. The course was virtually deserted at out 8:30 tee off, and although some have indicated a dislike for it, it makes up for it in value and volume of players. Why wait more than an an hour and play in 6 hours at Hang Dong??? HD is starting to get very rough from overplay and the garbage laying every where is really bad. I guess for some complainers another 20 bucks and a couple of lost balls is a deal breaker. The new nine holes are of mixed quality and it is rumoured that they will close a few for 'tweaking' in April. A couple of new greens, especially across the road are too extreme. There are some changes to the original nine also. I like it a lot, it's a challenge, fairways as nice as Alpine, nice clubhouse, range with grass tees, night golf on the original 9. Go play it, learn how to hit a straight ball and stop your whining !!

"Go play it, learn how to hit a straight ball and stop your whining !!"

Actually, I would suggest to do this in the opposite order: Stop whining, learn how to hit straight and then go play it, but that's just me.

Glad you liked the course. I'm going to play in CM soon and North Hill was on my to-play list. But after having seen some photos and sat. images I changed my mind - looks boring like h*ll.

Not such a crazy comparison. I have played Alpine many times (weekly with Sanook-Sabai for almost a year) and North Hill several times now. Maybe more apt to state 'fairways comparable to the best in Chiang Mai'. Certainly far better than any of the 9 hole courses, Lanna, Inthanon, Gold Canyon, Green Valley.... What's left? It's been some time since I went to Mae Jo or Royal but they were never especially great and I 'd never rate Highlands better than average. I have not played Legacy, yet. I don't see how making you pay for a buggy you don't want is a 'better deal'. Bad enough being forced to take a caddie.

No, not an investor. Investing in anything Thai is like throwing money into a giant toilet. My comments are somewhat directed at a certain occasional poster who has a blog 'Chiang Mai Golf Courses'. This person seems never to play anywhere except Hang Dong and offers little information other than complaints. How does offering virtually nothing in actual, helpful course info qualify one to write a blog? Good photos of the smog in his latest post there (??!!). He has offered a couple of comments about North Hill, not complimentary. His seasonal course rates info usually contains errors. Some would rather wait an hour to start and all day behind a six ball it seems. But if Hang Dong is all you can handle............

Latest update: Sports Day Tues., Thurs 800B. Closed on Mon.

Heard a rumour of some specials at Royal also.

Still don't like North Hills, played just about every course in and around Chiang Mai a number of times over but I prefer cheap and cheerful being a basic hacker who did not pick up golf clubs until turning in to my 60's.

The blog has an option for comments for people which to correct errors or contradict/ correct what has been posted. Nothing related will get unapproved.

The posts on the blog are simply my opinions, if you don't like them say so or simply don't read them.
