BANGKOK, Feb 13 -- Thailand's Deputy Defence Minister/Army Chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr has ordered First Army Region Commander Lt Gen Kampanart Ruddit to closely monitor activities of the United Front For Demoocracy against Dictatorship (UDD) after several of its leaders have frequently expressed political comments recently.

Gen Udomdej told journalists that most UDD leaders understood the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and the government better after being “invited for discussions” with military officers.

But many of them still did not gain enough understanding, he said, adding that it is the responsibility of the NCPO to try to make them to adjuist their attitudes.

Gen Udomdej said he had assigned Lt Gen Kampanart in his capacity as commander of NCPO’s Peacekeeping Force to take charge of the key Red Shirt leaders.

In another development, Chaturon Chaisang, ex-education minister and a key member of the Pheu Thai Party, which was the core of the previous government toppled by the NCPO last May 22, arrived at the Military Court to attend a session ruling on the scope of the court's power before the court proceeds with the trial on his case.

The Military Court earlier charged that Mr Chaturon violated the NCPO orders by not reporting to the agency, inciting unrest in the country and violating the computer law.

A large crowd including Mr Chaturon’s younger sister turned up at the court and presented him with bouquets amid tight security. (MCOT online news)

Those brave army men are a bit scared of a few comments from politicians....

Gee Thailand would be in trouble if its army had to actually use it's guns on someone other than its own people!

"But many of them still did not gain enough understanding, he said, adding that it is the responsibility of the NCPO to try to make them to adjust their attitudes."

Next time, throw them into jail and I can guaranty you, they will adjust.

No good taking the soft approach with them.

Interesting as the Bangkok Post just wrote that on Wednesday Jatuporn told "a TV program" that if Ms. Yingluck is indeed prosecuted and imprisoned his red-shirts would literally stage a prison break.

Maybe the 'a TV program" was on "Peace TV", supporting a peaceful prison break ?

As always, it's Jatuporn right out at the front with his fiery divisive antagonistic comments/calls to arms.

That one needs gagging.

The UDD certainly take advantage of the leniency offered by the Junta and always push the boundaries that inevitable lead to violence, threats and intimidation so it is best to monitor them now than clean the streets of innocent blood like last year.

Jail is not the place for these leaders. Guantanamo bay is.

Nah. Let's just hack them to pieces and post parts of the bodies round to the four corners of the kingdom as a warning to others like they did in more enlightened times.

Dear oh dear...

Are they eating a bowl of noodles...? rolleyes.gif

If it were up to the Shins they would be eating cake for all they care. biggrin.png

The very best way to instill understanding in Jatuporn would be a giant boot up his rectum.

They should be crucified upside down, have their fingernails ripped out, have hot needles jammed under their toenails, have their genitals electrocuted, and then the rough stuff would really start.......

If you're agreeing with this you have lost your humanity

and your mind.

Yes? Overcome with excitement at the prospect of seeing the crows eat their eyes and had to stop for a moment?

No offence meant, but to be honest I was just a bit speechless by the stupidity of your suggestion.

Mind you I must admit that in a topic of trying to get and keep government officials on the straight and narrow I suggested decimation might help to encourage the others. Almost just as bad

I don't think there are any Idi Amin supporters on TVF to agree with your form of punishment.

What should happen and is well overdue is the apprehension, trial and conviction of the people responsible for deceiving tens of thousands of Thai citizens into believing a lie and resulting in many deaths of innocent people such as the soldier who was dragged from behind the steering wheel of his truck and instantly murderd by his fellow Thai simply because they had been brainwashed into believing he was their enemy. And many of the red supporters die for what? For what? After weeks on end of daily hate speeches, doctored audio tapes, lies and instructions to burn down the entire city of Bangkok plus government buildings thoughout Thailand they had lost their ability to reason and had become exactly what the leaders had intended them to become. They heard "we will stand with you and die with you if necessary" from their leaders.

It was all a big lie. But it was executed in a way that would have made Nopaleon Bonaparte jealous. I'm not going to rehash the root cause of this terrible injustice done to the these Thai people and the unless loss of life of those who died bacause all of us living here at the time know full well the root cause.

These guys are a laugh a minute.

It's not as if people don't see this 'government' for what it is, but if this 'government' really wants to pretend to be something it's not, they could hardly screw it up more than with comments like this...

My conclusion about the UDD is that they are a bunch of primitives who in ancient times would roam the country and take everything they wanted at the end of a spear. They have no regard for other people or their rights and are the simplest form of personal greed. They would launch grenades into women and children if there was a few thousand baht in it.

Unfortunately this makes them a useful tool for Thai politicians. Maybe in the future they will be treated like the criminals they are and locked up as terrorists instead of being forgiven under this fake title 'reconcilliation' which actually means appeasement in Thailand. History has taught the rest of us that this never works. Whoever is 'appeased' always decides they want something else next.

I will never forget the mass cheering on the news of the protestors (including a young girl) being murdered by these people in Trat. Thai people should not either.

Yes, don't worry about the "Yellow Shirts" and the "Bangkok elite", because they are as clean as the pure driven snow. They can't do any wrong at all.

Hey now, it' not about adjusting attitudes, or Jatuporn's rhetoric, or Yingluck's asylum rumours...no, it's because of Valentine's Day - just imagine "Thida the Tease" in red garters, what an enticement for inappropriateness...the monitoring is vital!

Upon reading "Thida the Tease" in red garters I had to take a nitro glycerin tablet for my heart.

yea Costas throw anyone not agreeing with your hero in jail

I mean it's YOUR country now right? no dissent allowed, to hell with freedoms and civil liberties why not change the name to Costaland

No doubt he will be bravely leading from the front.

What a complete waste of space and utter <deleted> he is.

All these junta efforts for a short few months before election. Really worthwhile for the UDD leaders to lay low as victory next election is not far away.

Costaland - sounds like a discount supermarket.

But better than Shinaland as Thaksin's clan would like.

Watching known terrorists and troublemakers is something most governments and their security services indulge in.

Good you believe that Eric. See your happy persona has been restored.

The UDD leaders obviously don't think so - not without the usual intimidation and vote control.

Maybe the boss is getting impatient for his whitewash again?
