All of those arrested tried to escape but were apprehended by fast reacting police.

PHUKET: Eight adults and one minor were arrested in Patong yesterday (March 3) whilst playing the high-low dice game.

Under the command of Kathu Superintendent, Col Chaiyawat Uykam, Kathu police led by Lt Col Suthichai Tienpo arrested the nine who were allegedly involved in illegal gambling.

The eight adults arrested were named as:

Tongdang Phanpinij, 58, from Kamphangphetch (dealer)

Prawat Jankaew, 54, from Yasotho

Puy Poonsawang, 69, from Chumporn

Prakuy Pulsawang, 44, from Phuket

Suchart Hwongjing, 52, from Trang

Gaysorn Nontawong, 34, from Phuket

Thanakorn Rattanadee, 56, from Buriram

Haitoon Chaiyawong, 41, from Laos

The arrests took place behind the Fongbeer Pub on Phra Meita Rd in Patong, and when undercover police arrived, the group dispursed and ran off in different directions.

Police were able to apprehend nine gamblers including the dealer and seized a game board, devices and B280 in cash which had been left on the gound.

The dealer, Tongdang, is facing the charge of illegally running a gambling operation, and suspects number 2-8 face the charges of illegal gambling. Haitoon will also be charged with living in Thailand illegally.

Someone hadn't paid their dues, I'd guess.

Eight police to arrest nine people for 280 baht. Didn't they do well.

And is Thailand the only country where undercover police pose with their captives with faces in full view? At least no pointing this time!

Nice they can round up a few poor villagers and name and shame along with photo. However it seems in the big houses it is always linked to a local politician and police commissioners than end of story, no names no shame. And above all no arrests.

Thailand obviously has no crime problem since even a Lt Col. has nothing better to do than sieze 280 baht from a few villagers. Of course the RTP probably has more Lt Cols than the UK has sergeants. Has to do better to buy his next promotion.

Wow, they really got the High Rollers this time! 280 Baht - look out Las Vegas.

I'm not surprised that the police decided to publicize this one - truly the crime of the century.
