Hi Guys,

I want to pop over to CM for 4 days and every time I find what appears to be a decent place to stay with pool, I read the reviews and customers say it is a dump and the pictures are not a true representation of the facilities. While I realise you all want to keep your best places secret, would anyone pm me privately or tell me on here where is best to stay. I am on a budget 500-600 a night. A pool would be nice.

Also what to do there. I like the hot springs and I have my own transport.

Many thanks in advance for any input. I am coming from Phrae and would like to stay somewhere along the way for a night. Any suggestions.

Stay away until the air is halfway decent. It's total <deleted> right now.

You're going to be struggling to get a decent place with a pool at that budget. 700/800 is more the mark - try Smith Residence, I think they are around 700.

I'll be interested in alternatives.

Plenty of places you can use a pool for about 60 baht a day so maybe a better option if you want a budget place to stay. Great pool for lane swimming at Chiang mai Land tennis for example.

Supanich Condo, rents s/d rooms excl. B/f for around B600/day Incl. Bathroom, h/c water, balcony,WiFi, large pool, parking. Opposite train station, behind Bossotel,

I can't believe that anyone could seriously expect to pay for accommodation in CM , less than $20 and expect " a decent place with a pool"

Wow..

And yet.. Believe it or not.. They do exist..

Sure not downtown.. But theres 600 or 700b places that are within that spec.

difficult to find something decent with that lower end budget so am not surprised about the issues you're experiencing, 1000/1200 starts to get you a half decent place but still no guarantee of even reasonable quality.

Might be a bit over your buget but I always find the Lai Thai good for under B800. Its got a pool and is on the south east corner of the moat. Close to most things.

Your budget will get you little more than a basic room, and hoping for a pool as well?? I hope to win the lottery, but I'm realistic about my chances!

You expect too much for 500 baht. Be happy with what you can afford.

Last month I spent three days at the Hopeland Hotel off of Sukumvit Rd soi49

Price was 1,000 baht a day. Good swimming pool, free Breakfast Buffett (large verity of foods) . Quite nice for the price, Only bad thing was

the noise, and widow view from the 5th floor.

I may be wrong but when I used this hotel I was asked for a deposit of 1000 Bt, I am trying to remember whether it was for the room key or the safe key, but what ever it was, it was over the top.

Top North Guesthouse at moon Muang Soi 2 is in this price range. They have a small pool. I stayed there at my first visits in CM 10 or so years ago and it was okay. Maybe the rooms are a bit tacky already?

Royal Guest House had a decent pool......it's cheap, lots of backpackers....not the Marriot.....Thais and swimming pools are kind of like Thais and dogs....they just don't go together. I use the CMU pool for 30 thb per day...plus 300 per year, and I'm glad my condo doesn't have one. A friend is coming up from HH this weekend, I got him a room for 390 thb per night....no English TV, no pool....it does have a/c and is super clean. For quite a bit more money, a different place still might have a leaky drain or a few boogies on the wall. They just don't seem to be as meticulous as they used to be.

you didn't specify enough !

5*

min 3 pools,

one at least with a slide

and one with rocks and waterfall,

whirl pool in bathroom,

outdoor rain shower,

5* restaurant

breakfast buffet included,

live music bar,

night club free drinks,

some more for 600,- ???

Try Thomas Udon Thai House Resort & hotel, last time I stayed there it was 600 BHT , very good, clean, nice rooms, set in a garden, only about 12 - 13 rooms, owned by a German guy, Western & Thai food, both very good, can eat by the pool, or in your room, ten minutes from the center of town, set up like a nice small motel, best value I have stayed at in Udon, stayed there many times, BUT PHONE AND BOOK, 66 42204014, 0862353663

Not a single happy hour in UTH......no 3 for xxx promos, either. The one late night spot charges Silom prices. I prefer KK or even "Kolat," but you could certainly do worse. Nice group of uni girls at UDRU.

Very dated now.

Sorry, could you repeat that in English?

I had a friend stay in Manee Guesthouse last Year, they stayed in the new block at the back around the pool, I seem to think the room then was about 800bt. Room was new and decent. Better than the standard rooms in the old original block.

Huh! I know places at around 300 that have basic rooms with ensuite and cable tv. I think Top North is about 500 and has a pool.

Tawan Court Hotel, near the night market and Porn Ping Towers, centrally located. I stayed there for 4 months when my house was being built. NO POOL but friendly staff and decent rooms. Was around 600 baht a night 10 years ago, so I would imagine it to be around 800 or so now, but we liked it there
