i just observed a driver who has started his car around 2 pm and still waits for his guests with running motor. sometimes i see even huge coaches getting started hours before their passengers arrive.i also appreciate a nicely tempered vehicle but it takes just a few minutes to cool it down.my car stays the entire day in the sun and when i go back home it never takes more than a few minutes to cool it down.

though what are the reasons for it???

btw another fuel related fact to think about itpost-160354-0-01741700-1426412533_thumb.

depends on the fuel...

There is no such thing as "too cheap".

I may have more to do with the ability to switch on the brain of the driver to make him realize that the car is consuming fuel when only cooling...

He may not actually pay for it himself.

I have a game I often play on frequent road trips. By not gunning the engine, racing to stoplights, then hard braking to stop, not cutting in front of others with hard acceleration just prior to red lights and other antics, but doing the opposite - steady acceleration after stops (aggravating to Thai drivers) and other similar moves, I try to improve my mileage by watching the km/l gauge climb higher.

I think this game has long been banned in Thailand, and is illegal because I've seen very few people play it here, especially those who obviously are driving with only a few baht in their pocket.

Actually, it depends on the wealth of the driver. Fuel is certainly not too cheap for the vast majority of people in Thailand. In fact, it's rather expensive for a poor person.

Nothing worse than an ill-tempered car or bus.

" steady acceleration after stops (aggravating to Thai drivers)".

My experience has been the very opposite, I find Thai drivers very very slow to pull away after stops, especially at traffic lights when they turn green.

Jack-rabbit starts and stops, death-defying pedal-to-the-metal last second lane changes do not normally increase fuel efficiency. Yes, aggravatingly slow accelerators are annoying too.

Watching buses hours and hours, especially parked ones?? Living the dream...

I like the game a lot of the locals play...see how long afterdark you can drive without your lights on.....this must save a lot of fuel.

A better question might have been "Is life too cheap".

Though why they use their car/ mc to grab something from the next shop 50 m away???still think way too cheap....

Seems cheap to me at roughly half the UK price, but if I were a Yank and therefore accustomed to filling the tank for about $2.50, I would think it expensive.

I see lots of drivers keep running their car engine and wait inside in a shopping mall closed car park, instead of turning off the engine, lock the door, wait inside shopping mall with free cold air! That must be a Thai logic we can never fully understand!

That must be an Asian thing. They did that in Singapore too.

At least in Singapore the roads had lighting, while a Thai back country road doesn't.

Perhaps they think the amulets around their necks make them invincible.

Do you know how much tax is on UK fuel.........?......
