NLA to push impeachment against Boonsong, officials
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE NATIONAL Legislative Assembly will start impeachment proceedings against former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom and two senior former public servants on April 2 over alleged corruption, malfeasance and negligence that caused massive damage to the state in connection with the scrapped rice-pledging scheme.

NLA president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said he had put the impeachment case filed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission against Boonsong Teriyapirom, former deputy commerce minister Poom Sarapol and ex-International Department chief Manas Sroyploy |on the agenda for deliberation on April 2.

The NLA had resolved that there were grounds to believe that the trio committed several criminal offences in accordance with anti-graft law and sought impeachment proceedings against them.

Pornpetch said although the three men were no longer in those roles, they would be barred from politics for five years if they were impeached. He said he sent copies of the writ to the men and all NLA members.

The case was a different suit to the one filed by the Office of the Attorney General against Boonsong and 21 others for allegedly faking government-to-government rice deals so they could manipulate the government's stockpiles, he said.

The OAG will today indict Boonsong and the 21 others at the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders regardless of whether they turn up at the court.
