Spam <a Practical Way To Reduce It>

Require a minimum number of posts before being able to start a topic? say 10 posts?

What do you think Huski? or would this just drive it into the threads? It would deprive the spammers of the advertisement of the topics!

I've noticed you've been hitting the spam flag lately, and with good reason. :o

The problem with your suggestion is that there are many posts that come from first timers looking to have an important (to them) question answered, some maybe time sensitive in needing a response. As such they may not have knowledge enough to reply to other posts in order to achieve this 10 nor the time to wait for answers.

We hate spammers.

We deal with so many spamming posts everyday that a practical solution would actually be great, but where to draw the line?

Keep us mods busy? or make it harder for members (newbies) to join in?

Well, we will do the work so that our members have a better chance of enjoying TV.

BTW, the report button is a great help to us and on behalf of the whole team we thank you all for reporting spam as quickly as you all do.

I agree with this, only reported a spam once, was deleted very quickly, the spam that is not my post or was it my post?

There is one way that your idea might work but would probably require a modified version of the forum software. That is the first x number of posts from a new member is redirected to the mods for evaluation. When it is determined s(he) is not a spammer then it can be sent through the normal channels. This is actually how some moderated forums work in that all posts go to the mods first before being posted publicly. Of course this means slow replies and not a realistic solution, but a subset of posts (such as the first 5 to 10) may not be too bad.

However it may still be better to let it all hang out from the new posters allowing the rest of us to help the mods identifying spam else it may be too much of a burden for them.
