Lite Beer
Hospital boss suspect arrested in abbot murder BANGKOK: -- The executive chairman of the Aek Udon hospital in Udon Thani province, Mr Bancherd , was arrested by police for being a mastermind in the suspect murder of a temple abbot in Udon Thani on March 1. He was arrested at Aek Udon hospital Friday night and escorted to the provincial police headquarters for questioning. The arrest came after the Udon Thani Provincial Court has issued warrant for the arrest of Mr Bancherd after a police officer confessed that Bancherd is the mastermind of the murder. The police sought arrest warrant from the court after the police officer Sgt Charnchai Soisangwan was escorted back to Thailand from Laos where he was arrested and detained by Laotian authorities for illegal entry.Sgt Charnchai fled to Laos after the police arrested the gunman, Panja Chalisen, 49, who confessed to be paid 50,000 to shoot the abbot, Phra Bandhit Subandhitto, on March 1.Assistant commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen said Bancherd is wanted for being the person who hired Sgt Charnchai 300,000 to shoot the abbot.Sgt Charnchai then paid the gunman 50,000 baht to do the job while he drove for the gunman to the temple and shoot the abbot while he was on a morning alms-taking.He did not give the reason for the shooting of the abbot but earlier report said adultery was the reason for the murder. He said another suspect, Boonnark Hongsakam, was also arrested. He was said to the person who identified target for the gunman to shoot.(Photo : ThaiPBS File) Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/hospital-boss-suspect-arrested-in-abbot-murder -- Thai PBS 2015-03-

JoeLing
What a strange name: "Sgt Charnchai 300,000"Suppose could be worse, he could be "A boy called Sue" Now I wonder, how much did "Sgt Charnchai 300,000" get paid for his part of the job? Once again, an outstanding, professional job in journalism Edited March 27, 2015 by JoeLing
Lite Beer
Udon hospital chief held for murder of monkTHE NATION Banjerd ChatphaithoonBANGKOK: -- ALLEGED MASTERMIND AND AIDE ARRESTED AFTER CONFESSIONS BY GUNMAN, DRIVERTHE chairman of a private hospital in Udon Thani was arrested late |yesterday over his alleged role as the mastermind behind the murder of a revered Udon Thani monk early this month, a police source said.Another man was arrested for allegedly identifying the monk for the gunman to shoot. The two men have been identified as Banjerd Chatphaithoon, the chairman of Ek Udon Hospital, and Bunnag Hongsakham, a driver with an irrigation office. Both men have been charged with premeditated murder for their alleged roles in the killing of Phra Bundit Supanditto on March 1 at Wat Ban Pa Seesiad, where he was the abbot.Assistant Royal Thai Police chief Lt-General Panya Mamen earlier hinted at the identities of Banjerd and Bunnag after they were implicated in the crime through the confession of Pol Sr Sgt-Major Charnchai Soisangwan, who was apprehended this week after fleeing to Laos. Panya said Charnchai admitted to receiving Bt300,000 from the mastermind to co-ordinate the shooting, and paying Bt50,000 to the gunman, janitor |Panja Chareesaen. In his statement quoted by a number of senior police investigators, Charnchai said he had tracked the monk on a daily basis for quite some time before he drove Panja to Wat Pa Seesiad.Police spokesman Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri said that the mastermind was being closely |monitored by undercover police.Panya said that Panja was feeling very guilty for shooting such a |highly-respected monk and had |volunteered additional details to police while also showing them |evidence he had hidden. The evidence allegedly included the headwear he wore during the shooting of the monk from the roof of a pickup truck driven by Charnchai.Panja and Charnchai are in the military custody under martial law.Charnchai is being questioned by military interrogators and his re-enactment of the alleged crimes will be conducted after he is handed over to police.Prawut said it was not immediately clear whether the two suspects were linked with any senior policemen. "But all suspects and policemen found linked to the murder will be caught and prosecuted," he added.Meanwhile, at a police facility in Khon Kaen villagers who were followers of the late monk gave flower bouquets to police investigators as a token of appreciation. Actually the only one shown to have committed Adultery is the accused murder. It was said that the accused had said to the co-accused that his wife was attending the Wat for the purpose of adultery to encourage the co-accused to commit the murder of a highly respected monk. Janitor???? Now now! Please, in popular culture they are referred to as either "Sanitation Officers or Cleaners" depending on whether they clean toilets or rub out people. He appears to perform both trades. I do love the fact that the cop kept 250,000 for himself, subbed the killing to someone else for just 50,000 & just worked as driver. Does he have a Taxi licence? Popular Post lopburi3
Actually the respected monk was a medical doctor (prior to becoming monk) and was reported to often freely treat temple visitors in competition to a private hospital and many believe that was the real reason for the murder.

Bung
It will be interesting to see if he has enough power to make bail and run. Maybe not with shooting a monk! My guess is he will. He will gather up his (and probably others) money and be in Laos/Cambodia soon working in a hospital. I bet that collection of Mercs is being shifted there as we speak.
