Chiang Mai:- A parade of Phra Buddha Sihing and Thao Kabinlabrahma took place in Chiang Mai town Monday as a part of the Songkran celebrations.

The Chiang Mai Municipality has organized this parade to let people pour water on and ask for blessings from the sacred statues on this auspicious occasion.

Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year. Officially, it runs from April 13 to April 15.

Chiang Mai is one of the best places to celebrate the Songkran Festival in Thailand, with a really huge number of revelers on street and many cultural activities held.

This year, revelers for example can enjoy the contest of Lanna arts, the formation of sand pagodas, and fun water throwing on the roads along the town’s moats.

There is also a bicycle parade of umbrella-holding beauties.

With its 719-year history, Chiang Mai is culturally rich. Cultural charm fills the air as much as the fun among water-splashing people.

While cultural rituals continue, both tourists and locals also mark the Songkran with water fight. Most people out on the street are soaked, and armed with water guns.

Songkran is one of Thailand’s most colorful festivals. Each year, it has seen millions of celebrants.

In Bangkok, Silom Road, Khaosan Road, and Sanam Luang are popular zones for Songkran’s water splashing.

In the South, Songkhla’s Hat Yai Municipality has now organized the Midnight Songkran activities to let people have fun with water throwing till late night. The activities will run till April 15.
