Same day visa run by air – any recent problems on re-entry into TH?

Featured Replies

Am on my 2nd - 3x entry Tourist Visa. To activate my next entry, Id like to fly and travel to/fro in the same day, without an overnight stay.

On previous TV have always taken extra time and stayed out of country a bit longer or done overland, this time I cant. Im pre-planning now to get the cheapest flight.

Ample time between flights for immigration, flight delays etc already considered, am just concerned about the return back to TH happening in the same day.

DMK has cheapest flights and have read in older posts, the return @ DMK can sometimes be a bit ‘sticky’ when doing this.

Any recent issues experienced with a ‘same day’ re-entry back to TH ?

Thanks in advance!

It will not be a problem at all since you will be using a tourist visa for entry.

Don't know what you consider "recent" but I did what you describe to Hong Kong last October without incident. In fact, if I recall correctly, I didn't even have a visa at the time so was leaving after a 30-day entry stamp and received another one on my return. I flew business class to HKG in the afternoon, enjoyed the airport lounge, a flew back into Swampy a few hours later.

Should be ok on just 2nd tourist visa & go right through, if got few pages of previous history (like I had) you could be asked few questions to validate your status as leisure/tourism. They are a little hotter on repeat entry even with visas.

Always best be prepared though & basically all that means is some cash & access to bank funds via online account or bank docs if you got them (not funds in thailand bank) main concern is people working illegally.

thanks for the heads up on the questioning-I expect a some, especially since would be same day re-entry.

I have a little history with the travel to/fro on the first 3x TV, but its a brand new passport so nothing else besides that.

Will bring a print out of the non-TH bank account funds as back up just in case, appreciate the suggestion!

If you want to be on the safe side, bring Bt 20,000 cash or equivalent currency. Statements do not matter to immigration and in case things get bad, per law they do not even have to look at them.

By this afternoon, however, Sadao Immigration Deputy Superintendent Banphot Kittivira told the Gazette that cash was not the only way for foreign arrivals to provide evidence of funds.

“I don’t know what happened with those foreigners, but we had a meeting of all officers today to make sure that everyone understood that cash is not the sole way to meet the requirement,” said Lt Col Banphot.

Balance slips printed by any of the ATMs at the checkpoint are accepted, but bankbooks are not, he added. - See more at: http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket-news/Phuket-visa-runners-caught-cash-immigration-scare/30941#ad-image-0

A very sensible precaution having a wedge of cash to show them as that's pretty much the only item cited in the laws that they can resort to if your both passport and visa is valid. Agreed that statements and ATM printouts are of no interest to them once they pursue the 'adequate funds' route.

Oh yes, since you are a Tourist, having proof of onward travel out of Thailand could be the 'belt and braces' approach? Although it's the air carriers that tend to be more pedantic on this demand, it's not totally unknown to be asked for at Immigration either.

Please post back with your experiences either way.

OK, so it looks like Sadao are trying to get their ducks in a row. But that doesn't mean that the Immigration oik at DMK or BKK has to. If the OP is doing the out/in via air, cash in hand sure beats looking for an ATM on arrival.

whistling.gif I just flew in to Swampy on the 11th of April with a single entry tourist visa from Penang.

Not a word about showing cash on arrival just a welcome to Thailand and a 6o day stamp on arrival next to my tourist visa.

However as I posted before..... there is a English language sign posted right next to where you apply for visas in the Penang Thai consulate that warns that you should expect to be asked to show 20K Thai Baht funds when crossing the land border from Malaysia to Thailand.

This doesn't seem to be enforced though for flying into Bangkok.

The chance of ever being asked to show financials or proof of onward travel when entering Thailand, either with a visa or without, is extremely remote. Over the past decade, I must have at least 100 entries to Thailand (maybe 25 at land borders and the rest by air) and have never once been asked for either of them. Nor have I been questioned in any way...it's always been just a stamp for whatever entry I was qualified to receive at the time. I'm not saying it doesn't happen...only that the change of it is very remote.

It does happen and the chance is no longer remote, but only under certain circumstances. Namely if you are suspected to work illegally in Thailand. In that case they can ask to see the money as a reason to deny you entry. (You either have it or not, so there is no discussion as opposed to the question if you are working or not). Continues stay on visa exempt entries is a main trigger to be asked to show money.

^ yes my experience was much the same for a decade & never asked a question on my visits, recently have noticed a change in effort of scanning history & have been pulled aside myself a swampy & seen same happen to others, just bit more vigilance currently so belt & braces approach is advised ...

Your probably right...defense is the best offense. I always expected to be questioned and flayed on the rack, especially these past couple years during the latest crackdown, but it never happened, and I had probably the "messiest" passport as anyone. I've recently turned 50 so all this visa BS is now history for me...good luck to all you youngsters that follow :)

^ Yes it not hard to have a little preparation.

I didn't have 20k cash as I never ever carry that much as generally pull currency from first atm in country I visit as have no foriegn fees on my account & exchange rate not cut.

When I was pulled aside main emphasis was on working, the top officer was quite abrubt but fortunately he had some iffy chinese keeping him occupied, I had 2 officers who to be fair were quite reasonable & polite, they wanted bank book, my banks are paperless & would not be carrying a bank book to thailand even if had one :-/ . I had about 8,000bt in a mix of GBP,USD,SGD & THB. The top officer was told all this & I was told If show online account evidence of substantial income like I had stated he would let me through, I could do that easy enough & he whisked me through an empty counter himself. I do believe they would of let me pull cash from an ATM as well as had shown them the 2 debit cards I keep for foreign ATM use.

As someone pointed above you at mercy of the officers so some may not be flexible so having cash is safest belt & braces approach but also foreign account login is very good for showing income & fact it not from thailand ...
