Phuket was one of only five provinces that had no deaths throughout the seven days of danger.

PHUKET: -- A total of 58 people were hurt badly enough in road accidents to require hospitalisation during the Seven Days of Danger over the Songkran Festival.

But there were no deaths, putting Phuket in the same bracket as just four other provinces in Thailand – Mae Hong Son, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkram and Yala.

The final numbers were given during a video conference of officials around the country, chaired by ML Panadda Dissakul, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, and former Phuket governor Maitree Intusut, now Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.

Around the country, there were 3,373 accidents in which 364 died and 3,559 were hospitalised.

Yesterday, the final day in the campaign, saw seven people injured in Phuket, two of them from Myanmar and another two from other countries not specified in the report.

They were:

Chanoknate Tengchiang, 21, who hit a footpath on the way to Sapan Hin at 4am;

Kai, 42, from Myanmar, who crashed his motorcycle and sidecar into a power pole at 3.45pm;

Annie Martin, 55, who fell off the back of a motorcycle at 5pm in Karon;

Worapot Klakduangjit, 35, who hit another motorcycle at 5pm at the Central Festival intersection;

Thongnai Putan, 44, who fell from his motorcycle in Pa Khlok at 11.30am (police reported he was drunk);

Zohreh Karimi, 29, who was riding with no helmet when she fell from her motorcycle at around 2pm on Patak Rd, Karon.

Haleema, 51, from Myanmar who was on the back of a motorbike involved in a crash with a pick-up truck on Srisoonthorn Rd, Thalang.

Drunk and driving his motorcycle. Can you say *hole? If his death had marred the "clean sheet" of Phuket, would anyone on TVF care?

So, none of the 58 died at the scene, enroute to the hospital, or at the hospital, sometime later.

Now that's "Amazing Thailand." smile.png

A death away from the scene wouldn't be a problem, except to a bereaved family, as it wouldn't spoil the the supposed clean sheet. Can't have that can we as success and appearance is everything.

We can all relax knowing Phuket is a safe place to ride and drive.

RIP, to the two Chinese tourists killed the other day, one dragged under the vehicle for a Kilometer.
