TRIPxCORE Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Do you like any of these beers? Sorry to all you Chang drinkers in advance! Originally recorded in ancient Egyptian & Mesopotamian writings, beer has beent he elixir of choice for most of our civilizations history. The one thing that has changed in that time, however, is the variety of lagers, ales & stouts. All of which benefits you, the beer-swilling, wobbly-legged consumer. Submitted for your approval, here is Poker Life's venerable United Nations of beer. Because it has to be happy hour somewhere. United States Samuel Adams Boston Lager Brewery:Boston Beer Company Among the world's newer go-to brews, Sam Adams has a very complex fruity & spicy aroma with an appealing, light-amber-copper color. The carbonation is medium-high, and the mouthfeel is very pleasant. Ireland Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale Brewery:Smithwicks Brewry/Irish Ale Brewries Ltd The Irish Cream Ale has an inviting dark reddish-brown color with a scent of malt followed by a distinct woodiness. When poured, it yields a gorgeous tight head that lasts for quite some time. The mouthfeel is very light on the tongue yet holds a strong bitter aftertaste. Canada Wild Rose Wrasberry Ale Brewery:Wild Rose Brewry Preservatives:no Additives:yes, in the form of thousands of little red whole raspberries. This lightly hopped ale contains 4.5% alc. and shows an interesting peach color with average head and minimal carbonation. Mouthfeel is very light, and the flavor is very similar to a cider. Czech Republic Herold Bohemian Wheat Lager Brewery:Pivovar Herold Breznice a.s. Our pal Herold features a nice finger of dense, white head on top of a hazy, pale-gold beer. The aroma is complex, but mostly dominated by banana and clove. There is a fairly nice dryness in the mouth followed by that same aromatic banana clove. Holland Grolsch Brewery:Royal Grolsch Grolsch is the No.1 selling premium lager in Holland and known as the country's finest brew. It is brewed slowly, for a fuller taste, clear color, and smooth finish. Light bodied with a faint hop finish, this is a very clean and refreshing beer. It's also the product of 400 years of Dutch brewing excellence. Germany Furstenberg Premium Pilsner Brewery:Furstenberg Brewing This beer definitely has earned the "premium pilsner" title it so prominently displays on it's label. This beer has an inviting golden-yellow color, pleasant aroma, and sharp taste. This is an extremely refreshing beer that's lighter than most. Belgium St. Bernardus Abt 12 Brewery:Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV This beer pours a cloudy, hazy brown with a long-lasting creamy head. The lacing is great, and the aroma is equal parts fruit, raisins, malts & alcohol. Now here is a word we dont usually associate with beer: delicious! England Riggwelter Brewery:Black Sheep Brewery This is a very strong flavored beer with well-balanced roasted malt and subtle hop aroma. The pour produces a creamy and thick head, while the color is very deep and rich; a caramel brown or deep-red brown. On the tongue, the beer is very smooth with a minimal amount of carbonation. Scotland Traquair Jacobite Brewery:Traquair House Brewery Ltd. A hazy, opaque brown that's almost as pleasant to watch as it is to drink. The aroma is a very potent mixture of spice, hop and citrus. As it warms, the mouthfeel becomes very pleasant and smooth with salty and earthy notes. Thailand Singha Brewery:Boon Rawd Brewery Singha has one of the best and most distictive logos on the market. If you can get past the pretty bottle, you'll find that it's pour produces a limited head, but offers a pleasant and distinct aroma. The mouthfeel is a little high in carbonation, but very smooth and easy to drink. Japan Asahi Japan's Asahi Super Dry Beer is the beer that started the trend of the "dry" brewing process. This dry brewing eliminates the unwanted byproducts and waste from the beer and creates a clean crisp taste. The aroma is pleasant with a slight hint of spices, and the finish is crisp with no lingering aftertaste. Australia Grand Ridge Moonshine This beer pours a light-brown color just a tint below amber, with a thin lace head, making it look slightly watery. Aroma is complex and unexpected with hints of tobacco, chicory, and dark fruits. Taste is equally exciting, with flavors such as raisins, molasses, whiskey, and honey all mixed together. France Jenlain Ambree Deep amber color, nearly clear, and a pleasant, malty aroma with notes of aromatic hops, leather, and oak make this a popular beer in a country known mostly for it's consumption of wine. What truly sets it apart, though, are the notes of toffee and caramel. Mexico Sol Sol has a pale, clear-yellow color with a light body. The beer is high in carbonation with a short and smooth aftertaste. Sol is also a little lighter in alcohol content (4.5%) than most beers so you can go through several while louging on the beach. Finally, a lighter beer that is thirst-quenching. South Korea OB Lager Beer A very pale yellow with medium carbonation, OB smells like corn and watery malt with a trace of hops. Simply put, it's nothing special, just some typical flavors of weak malt and a slight indication of saltiness.

I mentioned a can of Chang to a friend of mine and he said he got a headache just thinking about it. Just then I felt a pounder coming on. A dreaded changover just thinking about it. Happens when I think about Sing too, or Tiger or Heine or Leo or...
That kid Chris Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 What is the difference between Ales, Lagers and Pilsners???? All beers fall under two categories, Lagers or ale. A modern ale is commonly defined by the strain of yeast used and the fermenting temperature while Lager is the English name for bottom-fermenting beers of Central European origin. Differences between some ales and lagers can be difficult to categorise. Steam beer, Kölsch and some modern British Golden Summer Beers use elements of both lager and ale production. Baltic Porter and Bière de Garde may be produced by either lager or ale methods or a combination of both.
Kan Win Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Hey Colonel... where's a photo of one of those lovely Tiger girls? Jai Dee, Never saw them, but will be on a look-out for them when I do my rounds... Yours truly, Kan Win
