my wife and I are on an extension of stay visa which is due to be renewed in June we have used this system for over six years . Today my wife's daughter called her and as a surprise want to fly her back to the UK next month for a holiday. I have suggested to my wife that this would be a good excuse to renew her passport as it runs out this coming December however what worries me is what would happen if she re- entered on her new passport as she would then come in on a 30 day tourist visa could this particuler visa be transferred to a yearly extension to stay visa or would I have to purchase a re-entry visa on her existing passport . I am not sure if the UK authorities would issue her a second passport and allow her to continue to use her existing one. Any advice would be welcome

She needs a Re Entry Permit and when returning to Thailand show both Passports.

Remember to write the Re Entry Permit number on her entry card.

You and your wife may have extensions of stay but they are not "visas"

Your wife needs a re-entry permit.

When returning to Thailand she then presents both passports.

They will not keep her old passport when she gets a new one. It will only be cancelled and the corners cut off.

She will use both passports for entry to the country showing her re-entry permit in her old passport and immigration will stamp her into the country in her new passport. Then she will need to go to immigration to have her stamps transferred to her new passports from the old one.

It is good she will have a new passport when applies for her extension because otherwise it would only be done to the expiration date of her passport. She would of then needed to apply for a new extension when it expired after getting a new passport.
