Teachers' boards suspend panels
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The current boards of the Teachers Council of Thailand and the Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Educational Personnel (Otep) have suspended all, except two, committees and subcommittees established by their predecessor.

The previous boards were removed through an abrupt order last week by National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) chief General Prayut Chan-ocha, who is also the prime minister.

Education Minister Narong Pipatanasai yesterday said that at the Teachers Council of Thailand, only the panel on the Princess Maha Chakri Award would remain active.

"As for other panels, we have to check if they are redundant or appropriate," he said.

At Otep, only the panel in charge of conducting financial transactions for Otep members' benefits will continue to carry out its duties as usual, Narong said.

Otep's business organisation now has accumulated debt of more than Bt4 billion. Narong has assigned its new chief, Suthep Chittayawong, to look into how the organisation incurred such huge debts.

Prayut removed the chief of the business organisation last week, leaving the post vacant. Narong then appointed Suthep as acting chief.

Suthep said he would work out a rehabilitation plan for the organisation.

So I guess they weren't fired for their good service.

Maybe they needed time off to spend the kickbacks from the government 1 tablet 1 child policy.

Will they get a waiver too?
