The fire is believed to have started by a short circuit in a rented room.

PHUKET: -- A fire on Koh Pho Phi this morning (May 1) totally destroyed 10 rented rooms, a shop and some restaurants. The estimated cost of the damage is in the region of B1 million. No injuries have been reported.

8am, Phi Phi police were called to the scene of a fire which had broken out in a rented room in Moo 7 Ao Nang behind the Kashiwanut Restaurant.

The Phi Phi OrBorTor fire team and local residents spent over an hour putting the fire out with water supplied by the local Waterhill water company.

Officials have stated that a short circuit in one of the rented rooms is the possible cause of the fire. However, investigations are currently ongoing to find the exact cause.

It's a shame it didn't burn all the crowded shit holes down and give the island a fresh start. Overcrowded with shoddy constructed buildings.

Absolutely! Was there 3 times, first in1992 and it was a mess. Last in 2002 what a shame. A perfect illustrative model for destruction of the enviroment.

The desire of Phuket born people for a fresh start is swelling...........like my father-in-law says, time for nature to hit back!
