LOCAL HOSPITAL UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT AS CASE OF SUSPECTED NEGLIGENCE IS UNCOVERED BY AMERICAN EX-PAT.

An interesting case now from the Sathienrapong Law Office on the Tepprasit Road in Jomtien. On Tuesday afternoon the office was presented with a case from Mr. Robert Ramos aged 56 from New York a former Government worker who is now retired and lives here in Pattaya.

He was armed with documentation including an x-ray film which suggested that he had been subject to a medical blunder at the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital located in North Pattaya. He explained that on the 17th August he had a dental procedure at the Hospital under the care of Dr. Kasidis who was educated at the Julalongkorn University in Bangkok and also received qualifications in Australia and Canada. A follow up appointment was set for the 18th August where the Doctor asked general questions regarding his health. Mr. Ramos claims that the Doctor asked him if he remembers swallowing anything during the procedure, he answered no but was nonetheless sent for an x-ray by the Doctor. The results of the x-ray were not revealed to Mr. Ramos who was then prescribed medication to induce diarrhea.

At this point Mr. Ramos became suspicious and some hours later he noticed that he passed a small metalic object which would have been used during the procedure. Mr. Ramos was suffering from a painfull stomach and decided to go to Pattaya Memorial Hospital where he had another x-ray which indicated that a screw was inside his stomach which he assumed had been swallowed during the procedure and due to the local anesthetic he was not aware of this problem which had occurred.

On the 19th August Mr. Ramos went back to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital and challenged Dr. Kasidis who was unaware that Mr. Ramos knew that a screw was inside his stomach. Dr. Kasides denied that anything that could cause harm to him had been swallowed during the procedure. At this point Mr. Ramos sought legal advice and then made a Police report at Pattaya Police Station which detailed his case of suspected negligence.

In the interests of fairness we attempted to contact Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for their side of the story but no one from the Hospital called us back after a promise to do so. The case will now be dealt with by the local court and it is expected that Mr. Ramos will seek substantial damages.

I read about this in the Bankok Post.

For some reason throughout the whole article they called the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital by the name of The Krungthep (?)Pattaya Hospital :D .

I just wondered if this was to help sustain the good name :D of the Bangkok Pattaya meat market? :o
