Police step up safety measures for cyclists

Bangkok:- An assistant police chief Thursday sent an urgent order to the Metropolitan Police Bureau and all provincial police bureaus to step up safety measures for cyclists following a spate of fatal road accidents.


Assistant Police Commissioner General Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thawornsiri told all police bureaus to carry out four immediate measures to ensure safety of cyclists.

Chinese province to ban rooftop Christian crosses

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese province where authorities have forcibly removed hundreds of rooftop crosses from skylines of cities and towns has proposed a ban on any further placement of the religious symbol atop sanctuaries at both Protestant and Catholic churches.

Yasothon's famous bungfai festival starts today

Yasothon:- The Yasothon provincial administration urged Thai and foreign tourists to visit and enjoy the annual bungfai festival that begun Friday. The festival will continue until Sunday.


Bungfai are traditional bamboo rockets that Isaan or northeastern people fire in the sixth month of the lunar calendar to worship Phaya Thaen or a god of rains, hoping he would bless them with abundant rains for their crops.

Prayut orders constructions of bike lane guards

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha instructed the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Interior Ministry and the Transport Ministry to build barriers to protect bike lanes to ensure safety of cyclists.

Deputy Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the prime minister gave the order during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Thursday when he expressed concern for the safety of cyclists after four cyclists were killed and five injured in three road crashes this week.

Chao Phraya riverbank and canal communities, old buildings to be preserved national heritage

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will preserve a seven kilometre long stretch of the Chao Phraya River and its surrounding environments a national heritage site with plan for the rehabilitation and renovation to finish in July 2017.

PHUKET: -- A feasibility study carried out nine years ago into a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for Phuket has been dusted off after Deputy PM Pridiyathorn Devakula’s suggestion two weeks ago that a second phase of the Phuket Light Rail System (LRS) be created to link Phuket Town with Patong.

Crown Prince voices concern over safety of bicyclists

BANGKOK: -- His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn has voiced concern over the safety of bicyclists pedalling on the streets following repeated fatal accidents involving bicycles, deputy government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Friday.

He said the Crown Prince expressed his safety concern of all bicyclists to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha last night after hearing several news reports of fatal accidents involving bicyclists during this period.

The deputy spokesman revealed that the Crown Prince said as he also pedals bicycle regularly to exercise, he asks the prime minister to take care of all vehicles on the roads for the safety of the people.

The Crown Prince advised that all road users must strictly abide by the traffic laws for the sake of all the people who share use the roads.

The Crown Prince also designated his representative to bring flowers to all injured bicyclists, and also to place a wreath in front of the coffin of the killed bicyclist in a fatal accident on Ramintra-Ratchada ring road, Maj Gen Sansern said.

Thailand and China enjoy 4 decades of well developed diplomatic relations

BANGKOK, 8 May 2015 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Tanasak Patimapragorn has met with Yang Jing, the Chinese State Councilor and Secretary General of the State Council, during the latter's official visit to Thailand as a guest of Thai Foreign Ministry to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.


At the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the prosperous developments of the bi-lateral relations during the past four decades. They enjoyed close ties and frequent high-level exchanges that pushed forward the bilateral cooperation to a successful level.

Thailand and China also deepened their economic ties in various prospects, including the joint projects of railways construction and agricultural goods trades. They also sought greater cooperation in regional and multilateral frameworks, especially that of ASEAN and China.

On this occasion, Yang Jing, as the representative of the Chinese government, donated sets of computers worth around five million baht to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to honor her 5th cycle birthday anniversary. These computers, given through the Thai government, would be used in the Princess's royally initiated projects. Also given throughout the Thai government were three-hundred scholarships for irrigation and energy training in China.

Conservatives look to be winners in surprise UK election
