Hi Boys and girls

I am here on a retirement extension, I have to go to Myanmar urgently (tomorrow)

Can I get the permit to leave from the airport or do I have to do the Phuket town circus?

Many thanks in advance

Stu

What you want is a "Re-entry Permit" (I've edited the post title), you can certainly get one at the Bangkok airports, don't know about Phuket.

Hello. If it's a re-entry you need, you will get it at Phuket Airport.

I did this last July. Not a problem.

However, they asked me for extra money for the service i.e. above and beyond the official fee. (If, indeed, there is an official fee; I don't know about fees - my girlfriend deals with all this kind of stuff.)

Well did the hour and a bit trip to the airport only to be told cannot.

Phuket Town Immigration only.

Well, either things have changed since last July or, I suspect, you've been given wrong information. The only thing I couldn't have in July was a multi entry - single only.

Why don't you try phoning them at the airport and you might get a different answer?

Phuket Airport can issue Single Re-entry permits but they will do it only non working days.

On working days they will send you to Phuket Town.

Then I must have been lucky in July and happened to be at the airport on a day Phuket Town Immigration office was closed.

Sorry for any confusion!

Just out of curiosity, I had a look at my passport: I got my re-entry at Phuket Airport on Tuesday, 15th July, 2014.

If I'm not mistaken, that day was not a holiday.

Sorry, I know this doesn't really help the OP; it just adds to the confusion.

Don't know.

I went to the airport today (Sunday) and went through a load of Immigration officials until I got to the ones loaded down with pips on their shoulders and was told no by them all.

They were very nice about it though.

Yeah ^^^, there's a 200 Baht service fee at BKK airports.

Immigration form TM8 ( application for re-entry permit ) clearly states that

the fee for a single entry re-entry permit is 1,000 Baht and a multi entry is

3,800 Baht. I am guessing the " 200 Baht service " you mention is over

and above the usual immigration charges above? thumbsup.gif

Sorry to hear that.

I suppose that you have a extension of stay and not a visa and you would fly out of the country straight away.

If that is the case they should give you a re-entry permit.

Edit: Just read you first post and you mention that you go tomorrow (monday) in that case Phuket airport does not issue you with a re-entry permit.

You could have, of course, avoided this situation had you done as everyone does including myself,

at least I thought everyone did!, and get a re-entry permit when you re-new your annual extension.

I have to admit I thought that it was compusory to re-new my re-entry permit at the same time as my

extension, but you have proved that it is not but I think you are probably wishing right now that it was,

for 1,000 Baht you could have avoided all this hassle. wub.png

You can never predict when you may need to leave the country quickly, for any reason, and for me

1,000 Baht is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Good luck, hope you get your re-entry permit, if not you will probably have to re-apply for an non O

and new extension, and that will cost you much more than 1,000 Baht, ouch.

A Re-entry is not compulsory but it will expire at the same day as your extension expire date.

Therefore it is indeed advisable to get a new re-entry permit when you receive your new extension of stay so you always can leave the country without any problem in case of a emergency.

as all flights from Phuket to Myanmar HAVE to pass thru Bangkok

get it at Bangkok airport

as i recall ( might be wrong but) from traveling phuket to Mandalay in March the office for re entry permits is right after immigration at Don Meung.

Stuandjulie, the best I can come up with is, depending on what time you have to leave tomorrow, is

get to Phuket town immigration as early as possible tomorrow morning and you may have a chance

of obtaining your required re-entry permit before you leave, but it is a bit of a long shot, again good luck.

Is there any chance the immigrations people at the airport will only issue a re-entry permit to passengers who have obtained a boarding pass already?

Not sure about the Bangkok airports. Do they cater to walk-in applicants or only those who are heading to the departure lounge?

The additional 200 baht covers the cost of the photo and the service of them completing the form for you. All you need to do is present your passport, sign the form and hand over the cash. It takes about 15 minutes.

I don't think that there is any change.

So far i know it was always the case that you only get a re-entry permit when you fly out the same time.
