New ferry boat fare rate due in August

BANGKOK, 16 May 2015 (NNT) – The Marine Department says it has started to calculate a new fare rate for ferry boats in Bangkok.

Director-General of the Marine Department Chula Sukmanop says the calculation of the boat fare rate was based on the service providers’ operation costs such as employees’ salaries, fuel costs, and the number passengers in different areas.

According to the Marine Department’s chief, fares of ferry boats vary depending on locations. That is, fares collected at piers with a high number of passengers are normally lower than those collected at piers with fewer passengers. This is to enable ferry operators with less competitive passenger numbers to set aside enough budget to invest in improvement of their services and piers.

The new fare rates of ferry boats operating on the Chao Phraya River and San Saeb Canal are expected to be announced in August.
