PHUKET: The nationality and cause of death of the victim found floating east of Phuket today cannot immediately be determined, police said.

At about 10am this morning, marine police were alerted by residents that there was a body floating in the area between Phuket's Koh Rang Yai island and Phang Nga's Koh Yao Yai island.

By about 3pm, a boat team comprising officers from the Marine Police, Phuket City Police and Kusoldham emergency rescue unit arrived to the scene, about one nautical mile south of Koh Kai Nork island, and retrieved the bloated body, which was floating face down.

The body, which had a large gash in his back and was dressed in dark shorts and a shirt, was transferred to Vachira Hospital for further examination.

Due to the condition of the body, officers were unable to speculate at this point and will wait for more forensic clues.

"...Due to the condition of the body, officers were unable to speculate at this point and will wait for more forensic clues..."

Since when are officers supposed to speculate on anything other than what they can factually see, like the body being bloated and the cut. Those are facts that are indisputable. Nevertheless, they speculate all the time as if they have the education and experience of a seasoned detective and coroner all rolled up into one.

Police in Thailand are quite impressive.

With the reported numbers of abandoned migrnts drifting around the Andaman Sea this sort of event will be on the increase.

It would be really interesting if you could point out the speculation the police made in the quote you posted.

In general, Thai police officers do seem to be "more impressive" than Thaivisa posters.

Sounds like suicide to me, especially with the big gash in his back... coffee1.gif

A lot of speculations then to speculate on... Discover Thainess! thumbsup.gif

I'm going with Burmese fisherman, asked for a pay rise and got a machete in the back ?

Naa, a Thai would never do that! Too much work for a Thai captain - they simply kick them overboard and hope they can't swim...

Ah, Phuket and the Southerm Provinces, common attractions for retirees and tourists...sometimes they become the attractions themselves.cheesy.gif
