The man was driving from the direction of Patong towards Chalong.

PHUKET: -- A Swiss expat was killed in a car crash in the early hours of this morning (May 18) when he crashed his pick-up truck into a water truck on Patak Hill in Karon.

At 1:45am, Karon police were called to the scene of an accident on Patak Hill where a Toyota Vigo pick-up truck had crashed into a water delivery truck.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found the body of the Swiss national (name witheld until his family has been informed) trapped inside his Bangkok registered bronze Toyota Vigo.

According to witnesses, the Toyota was travelling from the direction of Patong towards Chalong when the driver lost control and smashed into the water truck which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The body of the man has been taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital, and the police have notified the Swiss Embassy so that they can inform the family of the deceased.

All those late models have airbags. Still that is a violent stop. Believe it or not, Arterial bursting is very common in these sort of things. I don't see the windshield smashed with the "spider web" tell tale impact, so the airbag probably deployed.

Thats took a hit from the water truck, without the full details, op says witnesses said he lost control then hit the water truck which was travelling in opposite direction, sounds like he has cut across and the water truck has gone into him full on nearside looking at state of wheel/axel and damage to rear side above rear wheel, so seat belt may not have helped in that instance against forces of side impact, do these type of pick ups have side air bags?

anyway RIP to the guy

Cheap, Thai pickups generally don't have extra airbags.

The same model sold in Australia may have up to six airbags, and other extras, but cost 20,000 or 30,000 dollars more.

I think you mean Thailand....

I think he means "retire permanently" earlier on Phuket, than anywhere else in Thailand.

This Nick character is another one of those idiot northern paddy field squatters who writes these hatred one liners all over the forum.

However, unlike most of the Phuket detractors, he seems to target any, and all, provinces south of Bangkok with his unreasonable tirades.

It really is sad the way some expat fools get so completely caught up in local politics.
