PHUKET: -- Two people died when a motorbike collided with a bus in front of the Thai Wasadu store just north of the Heroines Monument early this morning (May 25).

Police, who received a call about the smash at 1:20 am went with rescue volunteers to the site, on the southbound side of the road. There they found the bus with damage to the front, stopped in the road. Nearby was a mangled motorbike.

Under the rear of the bus, belonging to Phuket-based Pornsiwathep Co, were the bodies of two men, who were identified as Somwang Choykamchoo, 31, from Udon Thani and Aung Myint, 32, from Myanmar.

The bus driver, Montree Posee, 38, told police he had just dropped some passengers off at the airport and was heading back to the bus company.

“The motorbike came past at high speed and cut in front of me,” he explained. “I hit the brakes but it was too late because we were both going pretty fast. The bus collided with the motorbike hard and both the rider and his passenger fell off the motorbike and hit the road before skidding under the bus.”

He was taken to Thalang police station for further questioning. No charges have yet been filed.

Yet again more deaths. Good to see the driver not running away though, and also a little shocked he admitted he was going fast !!

"going fast" does not mean he was speeding, legally speaking. Damned hard not to see a bus though!

Condolences to family and friends of those killed.

Maybe some details are missing but if the bike came past the bus it was going faster than the bus which begs the question how did the bus rear end the bike?

Sheesh! Is that what you think happened?

Isn't it rather obvious the bus went over them?

Absolutely correct.

There is a very important piece of information in this story missing. Either the motorbike slowed down suddenly and unexpectedly after getting in front of the bus, which would be a very stupid think to do, unless it was a mechanical problem, or the bus sped up and intentionally hit them because he was mad.

Unfortunately, as is always the case when all the people on one side of the story die, we will only get ONE side to this story.

Personally I can't make heads or tails of the drivers explanation which just seems to

be blame the dead guys, they can't give another explanation of what really happened. whistling.gif

Driver said The motorbike came past at high speed and cut in front of me,

Looking at the photo the bus was well out in the outside land. Just my guess that the m/bike passed on the left side and cut right in front of the bus, slows down ?, bus hits bike, you can see the bike on the left of the photo smashed into the electric post, guys fall off and bus runs over them. Looks like the bus stopped quite quickly as the bike is immediately to the left side of the bus.

01.20 in the small hours, you have to question whether the m/bikes guys were in full control of their senses.

//update ... another news report that we cannot name says that the bike cut in front of the bus and then tried to make a U-turn in front of the bus

Maybe the bike was going much slower than the bus and the bus driver just ran into them . Will we ever know the truth , I doubt it ? Post removed to bar stool plod.

Sounds more like the true picture.

Both the dead from Myanmar? Do they have any knowledge of how to ride? Just asking.

And what evidence do you base that conclusion on?

A hunch? A gut feeling?

PW reports the dead attempted a U-turn in front of the bus. A failed U-turn I might add, but it makes much more sense than the OP.

right in front of Thai watsadu there is a U-turn, the most plausible explanation is that they past the bus left side and saw the U-turn was already there and quickly slow down and go to it in front of the bus ....miscalculate the distance and speed from the bus unfortunely

Yep, I'd agree with that.

Yep, I'd agree with that.

Me too, see that sort of m/bike madness all the time.

I'll just risk my life and my mates to shave a couple of seconds off to get where we need to go.

Daily occurrence like you say mate.
