Five farmers killed in farm truck collision with oil truck

Five farmers, all women, died and two others seriously injured when their farm truck was rammed by a 10-wheeler oil truck at a road junction in Tambon Wangmaikon of Sukhothai province Saturday morning.

The oil truck driver identified as Wiwat Mawan, 26, turned in to police rushing to inspect the scene at Ban Nongklap road junction.

He told Sawankalok police that the farm truck came out of the junction and made an abrupt left turn to head for Tambon Natung.

But its abrupt turn caused the farm truck to flip over and blocked the roadway at the time his oil truck arrived in speed.

The oil truck then rammed the middle of the farm truck killing and wounding all farmers in the truck.

Four farmers, all are women, died at the scene and three critically injured.

Police and charity workers were alerted and later rushed the injured to Sawankalok district hospital. One of them, Suparak Plulak, 22, died upon arrival at hospital.

All the farmers were on the way to shop for food at Sawankalok market for a religious ceremony Sunday.
