imagine studying for 3 or 4 years at university to end up warming up hot dogs in a microwave and cashing in the local cheap Charlie's 7/11 tokens so he can buy his next mamma noodle or having to chase migrant farangs sitting out side sharing a bottle of beer all day just to get the occasional wiff of the aircon

Just as well they don't have free WiFi as all the pikeys would congregating working on their portfolios on a cheap laptop

Well without 3-4 years at university you can't add 2+2 in Thailand

We just got a staff who worked before at 7/11.

Her sister worked for us and we told we would need 1 more staff, she told her sister works at 7/11 and would like to change.

We were OK, sister came the next day......So most probably lost half a month salary from 7/11.....If this is an indication how the work there is.

What is there to keep eight people busy?

As far as I know they work in 8 hour shifts. Earn 8'000thb a month.

My nearest (across the street) 7-11 has about 7 employees in total, 3 on duty at a time: 2 cashier, 1 stocking. One of them even has kids and brings them along when going to work. These folks have been around since I moved in here 1.5 years ago, so I would call them permanently employed. They also all live within walking distance cause I see them going to work sometimes.

That's about all I know about 7-11 employees. Hope it helps.

So I am told, the wife's nephew worked for 7/11 for a while when he finished University after studying 3 years of Engineering, took the job as a stop gap till we got him fixed up in a trainee engineering position, he is a lot happier now LOL

Small 7-11 in rural Isaan. At least 5 or 6 visible at all times. Usually another couple out back doing "something"

I can only assume that the job is attractive enough to keep people working there.

Some faces I remember to have seen for years.

Payment is on the lower end, but there are worse jobs for little money.

Our oldest (step)granddaughter (21 y) studied two years at a technical college in Khon Kaen.

She is not the brightest under the sun (to be honest), but now works in an industrial park near Ayutthaya.

After the first engagement (15000 Baht/month) she has recently changed to another place near earning more (have not found out how much yet).

So even with a basic level of study one can find a job in Thailand that pays better than 7/11.

To my opinion 7/11 is a side job, second/addtional income to the family.

Even a rural Thai has problems to exist on 8000 Baht.

My local 7/11 is incredibly busy- know most of the staff there and they are a pleasant bunch.

Living in sin city, I rather like and respect the kids who are waiters, chefs, shop assistants, hotel and hospitality workers- doing an honest job for not much money in a tourist town .

The alternative I leave to your imagination, but many decide that is not the route they wish to do down- and all respect to that decision .

I rather enjoyed an early vist to Lotus, as they turned on a P.C. a Non Genuine Microsoft warning came on screen.

the staff are everywhere except where they should be.

Capitalism is OK up to a point, I don't think there is any reasonable Capitalism. Lets be honest about this, if both you and me found out a way of making good money, living in say a house in the UK and one in Thailand, three good holidays every year, a good car, we would do it in a minute. but we should always remember the people who made us rich in the first place.

I hate the likes of billionaires like Branson and Mike Astley, who runs Sports Direct. To get that rich, they must have been screwing the public for years, and without going into all the details, they are just greedy B@stards. Same applies to their greedy offspring waiting for them to die so they can, well, you know what.

Capitalism is OK up to a point, I don't think there is any reasonable Capitalism.
