Letter of invitation to UK

Featured Replies

Sorry if this has been asked before, but could not find the answer.

I live in Thailand with my Thai wife and we plan to visit the UK to visit my son. As I understand it, my son needs to write a letter confirming that he is providing accommodation, together with documents that proves ownership. My question is, can this letter be printed from a scan; or do we need to supply the original letter?

Thanks.

I have used a scanned/printed letter from my brother for 3 successful applications.

Three successful visit visa apps. under our belts. Each time we've sent my mum & sister, who provide our UK accommodation, prepared letters similar to the following:-

"I am the sister-in-law of the Applicant, xxxxx and the sister of xxxxx, her husband & sponsor.

xxxxx & xxxxx hope to be successful in their application for a Family Visit Visa for xxxxx so that they can visit UK for a period of about 4 weeks in April/May 2015. I wish to assist that application by offering to accommodate them during their visit.

I am really looking forward to seeing xxxxx & xxxxx again in April/May 2015, after a break of 2 years since their last UK visit.

xxxxx & xxxxx are very welcome to stay at our holiday home during their visit. The address is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Since they will also be visiting people in other parts of the country, this will be one of a number of addresses at which they will be staying.

I understand that xxxxx visit is being entirely financed by my brother.

The holiday home is a two-bedroom property occupied occasionally by myself & my husband. xxxxx & xxxxx will have a room for their exclusive use during their visit with possible exclusive use of the whole house if we are not staying there at the same time.

A copy of my British driving licence is attached, since I am not a passport holder, as confirmation of identity.

I very much hope this letter will positively assist xxxxx application."

Apart from copies of their passport/DL for identity purposes, we submitted nothing else so far as a letter of invitation is concerned - no financial statements, no proof of ownership, no permissions from 3rd. parties, nothing.

Absolutely no problems with any of our applications - all granted without question.

Letters were e-mailed to UK, signed & scanned at UK end then e-mailed to us in Thailand for printing & inclusion with the application.

We've also only ever used an email from our hosts, be it friend or family, or a printed attachment.

It just needs to be an invitation to stay during your holiday, maybe include a brief description of the accommodation available.

No need to prove ownership or permission from any landlord and there's no for any proof of identity.

As with all covering letters and evidence, just make it snappy and to the point.
