Hey guys,

My Thai partner needs a certificate of single status (or something similar) for a visa, does anyone know where we can obtain something like this for her?

Never heard of such before, at least for a visa to another country.

In any case, I'd think her local amphur would be the place to go.

If her Thai ID card has "nang" in front of her name, she's either married or has been.

If it just has the letters for "no so," meaning "nang sao," she's not married.

However, some years back Thai rules changed and now a married gal is not required to take up her husband's name so her ID card may not indicate "nang."

So, back to the amphur to see if they'll do a letter.

Yup she does need a certicate of single status (I believe that what's it's called here, or otherwise know as a certificate of no impediment of marriage) And no she's not single but legally she is single. Single status certificates are mandatory in some country's when people Marry overseas and are a way to prove to the country you are marrying in that you are not actually married in your home country.

I'm asking in this forum as she has also asked on a forum she uses but has had no luck and I thought that someone here may have had to obtain this certificate before.

And it is a requirement to have this certificate to obtain a "temporary based work visa" for NZ, which is why we are getting this certificate.

Look for yourself here if you like no.12 http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/90F40F48-4034-4A33-ABFF-0AA70E9542B9/0/BangkokPartnershipVisaEnglish.doc

INZ also don't seem interested in helping us to obtain this....

We had to get one when we did our Fiance visa to the US in 2008. We got it at the Amphoe in her hometown.

We had to bring two witnesses from the village to the Amphoe, to get the certificate.

Or otherwise called 'letter of no objection'/ 'certificate of freedom to marry', you should get that one mate.......assume its the Fiance visa?

for anyone looking for future reference, you get your single status status from your local Administration office, same place you get your ID card, house hold registration etc. you must also take 2 witnesses with you...

You also need a certificate of marriage status, or in our case single status for police clearance certificate on the basis of any parter visa.
