Nasty exchange rates at currency exchange booths run by banks so proceeded to airport mrt ticket machines thinking perhaps downtown banks would offer better rates when I suddenly realized there are 2 privately owned exchange booths behind the ticketing machines with incredible exchange rates. I received 30% more than what I would have otherwise gotten from the banks. The one with the best exchange rates is SUPER RICH. Thought I'd share this in here...

Thats interesting news for incoming travellers !

I haven't noticed them last time (beginning of June), maybe not looking hard enough.

Kasikorn on the basement which was good in previous times is now unfortunately in line with the mafia rates.

I am afraid this hidden gem will stay hidden, because the thread title might not attract to much attention whistling.gif

"Super Rich money exchange at Suvarnabhumi offers excellent rates" would it be.

Sounds like.

But depends much on the currency.

For popular like USD and EUR the difference is in the 5% to 6% range.

The rates for EUR are 4% to 5% worse than at the normal bank counters in the city and S.R. adds some on top of that.

But there was a thread recently where one lost heavily by changing at the airport (buying (!) exotic currency: Indonesian rupia, low amount).

Can you share the exact details of this comparison? Original currency (Drachma?), rates. 30% sounds like a stretch to me. I could see 5% for small-spread currencies (EUR, GBP, USD).

Superrich's rates are ex-Ratchadamri; rates at their other outlets are not as aggressive.

I think the best strategy remains to convert just enough to get you into town; then hit one of the volume exchange spots (SR - Orange/Blue/other: Ratchadamri, Vasu, etc.). The absolute best rates are found on Pradipat (Spahan Kwai BTS), but this option is best for locals and higher volumes.

There are two Super Rich. Yours is orange super rich which gives OK rate (still good option at the airport) . There is "green" super rich (main office near central world Chitlom) that gives much better rate followed by Vasu Exchange (Sukhumvit 9 neat BTS Nana) .

many thanks for this tip...I have been using K Bank booth right before outbound immigration at BKK airport just for pure convenience (without checking exchange rates)

Just an update as I had some time to stroll at Suv. yesterday (4 AUG 2015).

Within two months or so, a complete set of exchange booths and two micro bank branches (Krungthai and TMB) has developed around the rail link entry.

I have seen:

Superrich (as described)

Value+

Yenjit

I compared the EUR rates. Very close for the booths:

38.20 to 38.30 usually depending on the face value of the notes (the higher the better).

Krungthai had 38.02.

The unifrom rate at the airport crooks:

35.76

Thats 7% difference.

Just think how long the bank takes to pay this as interest on your money.

38.20 to 38.30

Those rates are quite good. I was at Superrich yesterday and it was 38.35 EUR (100-500 notes).

Today 38.00 - 38.05.

Evidently the exclusive arrangements for SCB and TMB at Suvaranbhumi only cover levels 1-4? Maybe some contract loophole allows other finserv ops on the B level?

30% more than the banks? So let's say that last week, the bank rate was 36THB/USD. That means Super Rich gave you 46.8THB/USD? Ummm....

I'll take a wild guess and suggest that it is the airport link station concourse at Suvarnabhumi Airport...

Where is this, the skytrain station?

I think the clue is in the video title, Superrich exchange booth at suvarnabhumi airport.
