We passed by the one at Patong Hill just a few minutes after it happened. It looked like the 6-wheeler was probably going too fast as it came down the hill and rounded the bend at Wat Patong, hit the back of a small white car in front of it, then flipped over on its side. Unfortunately, there was a motorbike involved too - we saw the bike wreckage next to the truck, and could see that the paramedics were working on someone lying in the soi.

One seriously injured. The bike rider?

Reports are a European woman was involved.

Another case of Phuket brake failure.

PHUKET: One woman was seriously injured and three other people suffered minor injuries when a six-wheeled fully loaded with salt wiped out a row of shop and house fronts in Patong today (July 3).

The truck also slammed into the back of Honda car.

The driver of the truck, Kijchan Kijpitak, 49, from Samut Songkhram, told police that brakes on his vehicle failed as he was descending Patong Hill.
Police and rescue workers were quickly at the scene.

The injured have been taken to Patong Hospital. One woman who swerved to avoid the runaway truck sustained serious head njuries after she crashed into a roadside power pole.
Police have yet to release more details about the accident or the survivors.
