One of my step daughters wishes to work in the UK as a nanny. She's great with kids, 22 years old, but has no formal qualifications as a nanny, she left school at Mattayom 6. My uncle and aunt have met her and would be willing to act as financial guarantors in the UK.

Does she have any hope of obtaining a visa and can anyone recommend what path she should take?

Thanking anyone in advance.

My sister has just completed a course as a child care worker,

she has been working in the industry for a number of years

but now (in Australia) anyone working with children must be

licensed and qualified, i remember helping her with her home

work and remember the emphasis on first aid and health of

the children so i think this standard would be world (1st world)

wide to protect children.

Is this through an employment agency?

If yes, can I encourage you to do a lot of checking whether it's legitimate.

Why? A friend of my Thai daughter-in-law signed with a Thai agency to work as a nanny in the US. She paid a large agents fee and the agency insisted they buy her ticket (friend paid of course) at a very expensive rate for the travel to US.

She went, there were no arrangements whatever in the US. Friends here in Thailand pooled enough funds to quickly get her home.

This is about 12 months ago.

From what you have said she is not eligible for a Domestic Workers in a Private Household visa

It is extremely unlikely that she will qualify for a Tier 2 work visa to work as a nanny; particularly as not only must she be sponsored (employed) by an approved sponsor (employer) but also the job concerned must have a salary of at least £20,800!

She also does not qualify under the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme to work in the UK as an au pair as Thailand is not one of the countries included in the scheme.

Sorry.
