I'd say they 'normally' don't last past 10 years in Thailand as owners don't care about maintenance but you only to look at some Thai government buildings to see that air conditioners can last decades if serviced correctly. I have an LG unit that's lasted over 7 years so I'm sure Daikin will last longer as it's a better brand. I have mine cleaned every six months and have the refrigerant refilled as needed. I imagine that once you start getting major problems with the outdoor compressor unit, such as faulty valves or a broken motor, it's probably worth buying a replacement unit compared with fixing it.

the home where the aircons are installed is located in a tropical country with max temperatures exceeding 40ºC in summer. but unlike Thailand no airconditioning required from november till march. home is ours but occupied by my sister-in-law and her husband.
