Dramatic Raid: Village Chief and Associates Arrested for Multi-Million Fraud
In a high-profile operation, law enforcement officers, including a special commando unit, arrested the mayor of a subdistrict administrative organisation (SAO) and his associates on charges of large-scale fraud amounting to hundreds of millions of baht. On the morning of November 16, Pol. Col. Somboon Siraeng, Superintendent of Nakhon Thai Police Station, Phitsanulok Province, led the raid in coordination with investigators from Phitsanulok province and a commando unit from the Central Investigation Bureau. Nearly 100 officers launched “Operation Dawn at Nabua” at the Nakhon Thai Police Station before dispersing teams armed with 16 court-issued warrants for search and arrest. The primary target was the residence of the alleged ringleader, identified in warrant No. 414/67 issued on November 15 by the Nakhon Thai Provincial Court. The operation also targeted 15 other suspects located in the same area. The suspects, including the village chief who chaired a local community bank, face charges of fraud and illegal borrowing schemes. Investigators revealed that this case is one of eight similar investigations involving 700 victims and a financial loss of 107 million baht. Combined with the other cases, the total damages exceed 400 million baht. The operation began at dawn, with officers converging on Nabua Village, Nakhon Thai District, where all suspects resided. The primary focus was the home of Mr. Somsak Chandi, the village bank’s president and the SAO mayor of Nabua. When officers arrived, they called for Mr. Somsak, who emerged in pajamas looking visibly startled. After officers presented the search and arrest warrants, Mr. Somsak reportedly froze momentarily before reacting angrily. He accused the superintendent of unfair targeting, claiming his home had been searched three times. Meanwhile, his visibly upset daughter argued with both the media and police present at the scene. Despite initial resistance, Mr. Somsak eventually changed into formal attire and complied, accompanying officers in an unmarked police vehicle to Nakhon Thai Police Station for further questioning. This raid marks a significant step in the crackdown on financial fraud affecting rural communities, with authorities pledging to pursue justice for all victims. Fire Incident at Thonburi Residential Building Leaves Two Injured
A fire broke out in a residential building on Soi Thoet Thai 21, Bang Yi Ruea Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok, at approximately 10:55 on November 16. The fire occurred on the eighth floor of Talat Phlu Condominium, located at 100/195 Soi Thoet Thai 21, Thoet Thai Road. The building, an eight-story structure providing rental accommodations, suffered damage when the fire ignited in Room 580. The fire destroyed an air conditioning unit and spread to some of the furnishings, but was contained by the building’s sprinkler system. Unfortunately given the location of the air conditioning unit, the operation of the sprinkler produced a large amount of smoke, which effected the communal corridors. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames using onlyportable fire extinguishers, preventing any possible further damage to the building. The building was evacuated, but two individuals sustained injuries in the incident. A 39-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to IMH Silom Hospital by volunteer responders and a 78-year-old woman who experienced fatigue from evacuating and was feeling faint with a weak pulse and was taken to Somdet Phra Pinklao Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the air conditioning unit within the affected room. 33 Year Old Woman Dies After Stabbing Herself in Ayutthaya Following Dispute with Boyfriend
Police Lieutenant Colonel Pleng Pankaew, Deputy Inspector of Investigation at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, responded on November 16, to a report of a woman who fatally injured herself with a knife at her residence in Pom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District. Medical personnel from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, investigators, and volunteers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation also attended the scene. At the site, a two-house property, police found the body of Ms. Wannawimon Chuchit, 33, lying in front of the house. She had suffered a knife wound to her right calf, which resulted in significant blood loss. A large pool of blood was discovered both outside and inside the house. In the bedroom, officers found a 20 centimetre fruit knife on the mattress, which was collected as evidence. Mr. Ratchapol Phondee, 29, the victim's boyfriend of two months, reported that the incident occurred around 02:00. He explained that the victim had gone to a nearby convenience store on a motorcycle, leading to an argument when she returned. The dispute escalated when the victim expressed frustration, accusing him of mistrust. According to Mr. Ratchapol, she retrieved a fruit knife from the bedroom and used it to stab herself in the leg. Mr. Ratchapol stated that he did not witness the stabbing directly but attempted to save her by carrying her outside and calling for help from neighbours. Despite efforts to get her to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance arrived. He also revealed that the victim had a history of self-harm during previous arguments. A relative of the deceased disclosed that the victim had a history of drug-related offences and had served time in prison. The relative, who had not seen her for a long time, was unaware that the victim had been living at the house with Mr. Ratchapol until notified of her death. The family awaits the results of the police investigation to confirm whether the death was indeed self- inflicted or if other factors were involved. Preliminary examinations by police and medical personnel revealed that the stab wound to the right leg had severed a major artery, causing fatal blood loss. The body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for a detailed autopsy. Police have detained Mr. Ratchapol and other witnesses,including neighbours and children present in the house, for further questioning to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Nakhon Ratchasima: 63 Year Old Man Dies in Pickup Truck Collision
A 63 year old man tragically lost his life when his pickup truck collided with an 18-wheeler and became lodged underneath the trailer. The crash occurred at approximately 20:10 on November 15 near a U-turn on the Phimai-Market Khae Road in Tharn Prasat Subdistrict, Non Sung District, Nakhon Ratchasima. Local police from the Non Sung Police Station, along with the Hook 31 Korat rescue team, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, rescuers found a heavily damaged silver Toyota pickup truck wedged beneath the trailer of the 18-wheeler. The driver of the pickup, identified as Mr. Chatchai, a 63-year-old resident of Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, was trapped inside the wreckage and had died instantly. Rescuers used hydraulic cutting tools to retrieve his body, which was sent to Non Sung Hospital for a formal autopsy. Mr. Chusak 60, the driver of the 18-wheeler, recounted the incident. He stated that his truck was fully loaded with salt, and he was in the process of making a U-turn when the pickup truck approached at high speed. The pickup collided directly with the trailer, becoming wedged underneath. The force of the collision caused the driver of the pickup to suffer massive upper body and head trauma. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and examining evidence at the scene to determine the exact cause of the collision. Doubtful. If that were the case, customs would have said so, not asked for a doctor's prescription.
