HUA HIN:- The Director General of the Pollution Control Department (PCD) Mr. Wijarn Simachaya has announced that the 5th Aviation Division of Prachuab Khirikhan has proposed Ao Manao, the bay under its supervision, for an evaluation of tourist beach environment. An evaluation in 2002 gave as 4 stars, equivalent to a good condition; this year, the 5th Aviation Division improved the environmental quality and condition of Ao Manao until it reached 5-star class, equivalent to very good.
According to Mr. Wijarn, committee members on beach environment quality control have visited Ao Manao to monitor and certify the environmental condition. After the inspection, they declared that the quality of the beach in Ao Manao was as good as that of Laem Sala in Prachuab Khirikhan, Ao Kha of Wua Ta Lab Island and Sam Sao in Surat Thani, Thai Mueng and Ao Keuk of Similan Archipelago, Mai Ngam of Surin Archipelago in Pang Nga, Laem Tanod of Lanta Island, Ko Rok and Bileh of Hong Island in Krabi and Li Dee in Satul.
A 5-star beach should be the one with perfect natural resources, no pollutions as well as appropriate environmental and tourism management. If any local administrators would like to nominate their beach for such evaluation, they can do so by contacting the Bureau of Water Quality Management’s Marine Unit of PCD at tel. 02 298 2215-7.
