Man in blue shirt at Erawan Shrine asked to contact police



BANGKOK: -- A man captured in security footage taking a photo at the Erawan Shrine on August 17 is requested to urgently contact police, as his image may include the suspected bomber.

National Council for Peace and Order's spokesman Col Winthai Suvaree said police wanted to see the photos taken by the man in a blue shirt to obtain a clear view of the bomber.

The man was seen in footage captured at the scene of attack taking photos of another man with the suspected bomber wearing a yellow tshirt and carrying a backpack in the background. Police have said that the bomber concealed explosives in his backpack and from the footage, he entered the shrine compound, sat down and left without the backpack.

The video footage shown by Winthai gives the time as 6.52pm, some three minutes before the explosion at around 6.55pm.

Winthai also said anyone who knew the man in blue shirt should also contact police. All information given would be kept confidential.

Have they ever considered that a person taking a picture less than 3 minutes before the devastating explosion, most probably may be among the victims?

I hope they have asked EVERYBODY who was at the shrine up to the explosion to report to the police.....long long time ago ?

My thoughts exactly...he could be dead, still in hospital and his camera might have been destroyed or the memory card washed down the drains.

i don't understand why this wasn't done a lot earlier than now. With trying to keep respect for the deceased, the memory cards from damaged cameras/phones/tablets should have been one of the first things to be sought in the after event investigation.

Please be quick, because the cops need the reward money.

One would think that all witnesses would have been asked to turn in the photos of the area prior to the bombing to help with the investigation.....not as suspects. He should have been on the air that night pleading with everyone there no matter what time, to please turn in footage or photos to help get the bad guys.

To the man in blue shirt, when you visit the police please have a signed confession with you. You were obviously on the scene to document the bombing and no amount of reward money paid to the police will change the idea of your role in the bombing.

The guy in the blue shirt in the photo leaves with a woman at 1:35 into the video in this much clearer view, below, which is about the same time as the snapshot (about 1:35 or 1:36). They cross very quickly while leaving and conceivably he took photos out of view of the camera. There is a different man in blue with a man in orange who comes in from the left at 1:17, but they take a selfie, and that's it. Does not take any other photos. Then he kneels to pray. There are many instances with a fairly clear view of his face, so conceivably, that second guy in blue is not the one they mean, but the first. Otherwise, they could have used any of the instances showing his face. I mean anywhere from 1:36 to 1:58.

One thing that annoys me is the video is many times clearer than any still shots released which are from a different camera in the area, and from a snapshot of a screen. The next 30 seconds of video from this camera would show the yellow shirt guy fairly clearly as he passed in between the camera and the steps. Look how clear the faces are of any people passing between the camera and the steps.

Little over the top if it did turn out to be one of the deceased but then, this is the land of tongue in cheek and crocodile smiles.
