RAMALLAH, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry are to meet at the United Nations in New York in October, a Palestinian official said on Thursday.

Nabil Abu Rdineh, spokesman of the Palestinian Presidency, said in an official press statement that the meeting was agreed to be held in New York between President Abbas and Kerry.

"In their telephone conversation, President Abbas and Kerry agreed to meet in order to discuss more ideas," said Abu Rdineh, adding that "they discussed the situation in the region and frankly talked about all related issues."

Maybe time for some payback to Netanyahu for his attempt to influence US Republican Congressmen to stop the Iran deal.

Here comes the two-state solution.

Payback, yes, and also the right thing to do.

I'm half-expecting to read a headline soon, "Netanyahu protests Kerry's impending meeting with Abbas and demands the meeting does not take place"

The latest approval ratings for Abbas among Palesinians is about 15 percent. Also, being over age 80, he has announced he will withdraw soon from politics and a replacement will be needed. So if Obama is a lame duck (a feisty one though) Abbas is basically a DEAD DUCK.

There is nothing in the radar now for significant progress in the Israel - Palestinian conflict. The political will for that simply does NOT EXIST on EITHER side. The predictable obsessive Israel demonizers who clearly mostly never wanted Israel to ever exist and hope (with Iran) that Israel is wiped off the map aren't fooling anyone. Including U.S. leaders. Including Obama. The USA will continue to support the existence and defense of the state of Israel. Deal with that, haters.

Also, keep in mind, the next U.S. president of either party will likely be even stronger in support of Israel than Obama. So it would be advisable for the enemies of the existence of Israel to face reality, Israel is not going away, start negotiations from a place of recognizing that, and maybe someday there can be progress.

His son Yasser Abbas is pencilled to take over, with a name like that what could possibly go wrong? :D

Not only is all of the above tediously off topic, ask the former residents of East Germany, Tibet, Yugoslavia and Sikkim if they thought their countries would end up on the scrap heap of history. ;)

Interesting.

If he gains some weight, he can affectionately be called Yasser Fat-Abbas!

I think the weight gain goes with the territory, along with the pick of UN food parcels.
